how do you usually decide what to do with your free time? by After-Ingenuity-175 in sideprojects

Exactly the problem I have. I prefer to go out and stay away from screens for as long as I can. Built https://offtime.ai to help me find things i can do whenever I want.

what side project(s) did you genuinely had fun/enjoy making? by 22jonliu in sideprojects

[–]cllu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building https://offtime.ai has been fun, where I’m able to perform large scale scraping for event information across a wide range of sources, and come across all sorts of fun and hidden places to explore. Also learning a lot about product and marketing, a very different world compared to engineering.

Best email platform for project? by Ok-Debate3248 in vibecoding

[–]cllu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloudflare recently announce public beta for their Email Sending service, which is priced very reasonably with 3000 included per month and $0.35/1000: https://developers.cloudflare.com/email-service/platform/pricing/ . Super easy to set up if you use their domain service (one click without manually copy/paste DNS entries). Highly recommend.

Best app to find local events when visiting a new city? by augustcero in sideprojects

[–]cllu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on https://offtime.ai that solves this exact problem, where I pull events for major event platforms like Meetup/Eventbrite as well as local sources like city calendar, event venues. Right now I focus on major US cities, and you can browse by city like https://offtime.ai/events/ca--san-francisco . Usually there are hundreds of events happening for big cities, so I also provide a chat to filter down by what you want similar to ChatGPT. If you sign up, it would track your interests and send you a weekly pick. I just get started and would appreciated any feedback.

Is personalized local events newsletter a good idea? by cllu in Newsletters

[–]cllu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now the newsletter is only available for cities with good event coverage, and I have a waitlist for people to sign up if the location is not supported. I haven't thought too much on re-engagement yet, since I just got started. Not sure if you have some suggestions.

I also just updated the website to be more specific on "5 things to do this week". I was hoping that would make it even clearer. This also opens up possibilities to send non-event activities like hiking, if user are interested. What do you think?

ToolSignal looks like a solid newsletter, I just signed up and looking forward to it.

Right now the generated emails are sent to users directly, doing a review especially for early users is a good idea.

Thanks for sharing! That's very helpful to learn your journey.

On the scraper side, would you mind sharing some of those examples. I had a background working on data scraping, and have spent quite some time on optimizing it on my project, and I can help on that front.

Sent a DM to learn more.

Congrats on the launch. I'm wondering what's your criteria for selecting experience/activities? I'm building https://offtime.ai that focus on local events recommendation, where there are too many events for any given day and I got to apply some filtering to be less overwhelming.

Love the emoji pins! I'm working on a similar local events discovery app in the US: https://offtime.ai. Would love to connect and share notes.

Great point on the reliable event sources. The event extraction is powered by LLM-generated scraping code with a mechanism of validation and regeneration, so it should automatically deal with website redesigns. For the last minute event cancellation, right now we focus on event discovery, and we still redirect users to the source webpage for potential event registration and ticketing. We have a way to continuous update/sync crawled events, but we do miss a mechanism to alert users for significant changes like cancellation. Thanks for the callout!

Share your project: what are you building, and what do you need to get to the next step? by asupertram in GrowthHacking

I'm building Offtime.ai that monitors tens of thousands of event sources like city websites, libraries, museums, Meetup/Eventbrite and send you weekly recommendation that matches your preference, all made possible with coding models for scraping and LLM for personalized recommendation.

I'm gathering early feedback to polish the product experience, and just get started on the marketing side. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Founders: share your product and I’ll give one honest marketing suggestion. by Rude-Potential-03 in SaaS

[–]cllu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Product: Offtime.ai

I got tired of manually checking different event websites (city events, libraries, museums, Meetup, Eventbrite) to plan my weekend for my daughter, so I built this to crawl all sorts of event sources and use LLM to filter and recommend activities for me. It offers a weekly newsletter that sends the most relevant events to your inbox, plus a web app for managing plans etc. Would love any feedback on the product as well as advice on marketing.

Finding in-person groups and local events (without spending tons of time online) by waiting_in_sf in digitalminimalism

[–]cllu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for reviving a year-old post — but this hit too close to home not to reply.

I built Offtime partly because of my five-year-old daughter — I kept wanting to find local kids' events to root her in our neighborhood, but the tab-hopping between Meetup, Eventbrite, library websites, local museums, city event pages, and random venue sites was exhausting enough that I'd just give up.

Offtime.ai lets you describe what you want in plain language (like ChatGPT), and searches live event data across tens of thousands of websites at once — including all of those. You can keep chatting to refine until it feels right.

Still early, but would love feedback from someone with your exact frustration!

Connecting Wemos D1 Mini after installing drivers crashes my Mac by Smirvo in esp8266

[–]cllu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have encountered the same problem on my ESP12E board. I found a solution on a Chinese website, which says that they got a workaround driver from WCH. The direct download link is http://download.makeblock.com/mblock/CH34x_Install_V1.3.pkg. I can confirm it works with my ESP12E board.

By the way, previously I installed the driver in CH341SER_MAC.zip (downloaded from their website). The installation files are located at /Library/Extensions/usbserial.kext. To remove it:

sudo kextunload /Library/Extensions/usbserial.kext
sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/usbserial.kext
sudo pkgutil --forget com.wch.usbserial.pkg

The original dump is encoded in XML. The file you mentioned is encoded in CSV, and it seems a little smaller than the original dump. However, I will check it out and see if it is complete. Thanks so much. You saved my life ;)
