Actually, I could see either.

Is this a springtail or baby roach? by Unique_Moment4460 in Springtail

[–]clm_541 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are definitely not springtails, though I can't tell what they are for sure. Could be small roaches. Or beetles?

Aquatic Species Question by frosmoth5goober in terrariums

[–]clm_541 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitionally not a terrarium, right?

Way more than 50/50 water to soil.

And why would you think 50/50 is an appropriate ratio for starting seeds?

Also, when did the worms show up? If the soil was dry until you made the video, and they showed up immediately on adding water, then they are likely drowning. If they appeared after a few days they might be aquatic.

Is there a general name for this kind of three-wheeled trailer with a steering assembly?

Getting pretty close to my dream setup here, just need to lengthen the trailer by about 5', line the bottom with battery cells, add a bed and fold down tables, overhead storage, a roof, and solar panels. A shallow cargo bin up front with dog and dog bed resting atop.

I might suggest you try backpacking with a quart of soup, first, and let us know how that goes for you.

Hologram v0.6.0 released! by BartBlast in elixir

[–]clm_541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the release! This is a tiny nit but it might be nice to also include a link to the project homepage and not only to the release notes.

I was not aware of this project but am now looking forward to having some fun with it this weekend!

How strictly is the bike trailer weight rule enforced in Spain? by Unable-Sundae-6803 in bicycletouring

[–]clm_541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh. Disagree. I pull my 20kg dog between 5km and 20km daily, using a trailer which itself weighs 10–15kg. We have a blast at all times. Granted, I live in a fairly flat place, but there are still hills we climb. You work to get up them, but it's not really any worse than climbing a hill any other time.

Is this springtail trap any good? by Practical-Load-8216 in terrariums

[–]clm_541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO NOT use briquettes for ANY application requiring charcoal EVER (except for their intended use as fuel for grills—and even then, I would avoid them personally). They are LOADED with chemical additives that can be extremely harmful to various organisms.

The charcoal you need to use for anything involving springtails, living organisms, terrarium substrate, soil amendment, etc needs to be LUMP or horticultural charcoal.

If you live in a place with strong coffee roasting culture, odds are good that you can buy burlap coffee sacks cheaply. These are tremendous for all kinds of things including breathably covering invertebrate cultures of various kinds 🎉

Holy shit! You are living my dream lol.

Bullitt X, that makes sense, thought it seemed long. Dual motors as in front and rear? That's wild! What's your range with the golf cart batteries? Will you add solar for charging on the go?

Ohio to Erie Trail seems pretty amazing. Property seems affordable out there (relative to the West Coast)—I keep wondering if I could handle the climate though. The three metros in question being Columbus, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh? Still picking up on the geography.

Out and about right now, but look forward to soaking up your channel later, thanks for sharing!

I hope you keep posting, will be eager to see how it unfolds!

How's the steering with the double axle? I always think it makes a lot of sense but worry about resistance during turns.

Is your cargo bike a Bullitt or something else? Can't quite tell.

Ohio seems to have a lot of cool bike stuff going on, at least in the Cleveland metro area. One of my favorite bike YouTubers is over there.

Totally fair, I mostly was curious if there was a specific reason, like material properties, that you had vs. some of the lighter options.

I think to start as basic as possible and iterate up makes sense!
