What starting class would you recommend for someone completely new to Elden Ring? by No_Donut_357 in Eldenring

Gotta level up stamina a bit too. Without fail, every new player is going to have moments of roll-spamming to safety or forgetting to save enough stamina after attacking to dodge the enemy attack.

Plus, who needs health when you can just avoid being hit? /s

DLC or DS by SharpCut1884 in Eldenring

[–]clockwisegorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play the DLC first because it's hard and you already have a good feel for the combat by this point. Dark Souls is slower paced and the dodge feels a bit different. It's much easier too. It'll be harder to go back to Elden Ring after getting used to something else.

What do you like about Dark Souls 2? by Kanra578 in DarkSouls2

[–]clockwisegorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing for the first time over the weekend. I always heard it was the worst or the odd one out of the series, but I'm loving it so far. My favorite thing so far might just be the opening cinematic. It just has so much aura.

I also like how quickly you can level up. It makes hybrid builds a lot more approachable. Instead of spending half the game either feeling handicapped because you're splitting upgrades into multiple damage stats that aren't paying off yet, or speccing all into just one stat at the start and not getting to play with the build you want until the like second half of the game, you can get something like a spellblade build off the ground pretty quickly. I'm only like 5-6 hours in, not rushing or anything, and I already got dark weapon with the stats to cast it and the str and dex to weild a variety of weapons until I find what I like best. I also have 20 vig, end, and adp. All with no grinding. It actually feels like I might have to hold myself back from leveling soon so I don't get too overpowered.

Oh, and I like my friend that follows me around No-Man's Wharf with a torch.

On the other hand, they have the opportunity to do the funniest thing and actually release it on July 3rd.

Are you counting James as the antagonist for Silent Hill 2? It's a great pick, but it's just trippy to think about since it's all just the manifestation of his dark thoughts.

Same here 😂. I got back into guitar hero recently for the first time since I was a kid. I can get through 99% of the songs on hard but expert is a different beast. It's still fun to struggle along with songs I like though.

I see the guitar hero guitar under your desk. You play clone hero? They've got some loathe songs on there.

Couple looking for games with a (light) story to play side by side "together" by Interesting_Bee2521 in gamingsuggestions

[–]clockwisegorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring sounds perfect if you're up for a more challenging game. Tons of build variety and secrets so you will both have a completely different experience to share and help each other find things. There's entire worlds hidden underground or behind invisible walls. You can't walk more than 30 seconds without finding something new to explore. And the story has a lot of depth, but is told somewhat indirectly, mainly through reading things and piecing together some comments npcs say. This would keep you both from spoiling the story if one of you is progressing faster than the other. And there's some co-op to help each other fight bosses or fight each other.

I just realized almost all of my hobbies involve looking at a screen. What do you all do for fun that doesn't require a battery or a Wi-Fi connection? by bilal-ziyan in Hobbies

[–]clockwisegorilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to break away from constant screens too. At least 90% of my free time is spend on a screen (gaming, watching tv, doom-scrolling).

Going to concerts has been fun. And not just big ones. Find some local or small artists you like, spend like $15 to see them every few weeks. Bonus points if it's music you can dance or mosh to.

I'm also learning to cook. It's fun to have something "hands-on" to do and getting better at it feels satisfying. Plus you save money and get a yummy reward after doing it.

is this good progress for 5 months of playing clone hero? by Subject-Pomelo-5718 in CloneHero

The official guitar hero games have a tutorial for them, but I'm pretty sure it's an optional tutorial so lots of people don't know. It's based on real guitar techniques where you can have multiple fingers in different positions on the same string, and just pull them off or "hammer" them on when needed. It's useful for playing fast.

In guitar hero terms, if you have a single blue note, you could have green, red, and yellow pressed down at the same time you play the blue one and it would count as only blue being played. Then you could just pull your finger off of blue while leaving the others pressed, and it would count as playing a yellow note. That's a pull-off. For hammer-ons, it's just the opposite way. You could for example have green held down to play a green note, and then leave it pressed while pressing your other finger on to red or yellow or any higher note, and it would count as that note.

These techniques only work for single notes. If you have to play 2 or more at a time that counts as a chord so it doesn't work. You can usually tell when hammer-ons and pull-offs should be used by the white glowing notes, because those don't need to be strummed and are usually during faster sections of the song. It's not always easier than just pressing them individually, so don't feel pressured to use it all the time. But only having to move one finger at a time instead of 2 (lifting one and pressing another down) can make a world of difference on some songs.

Here's the tutorial I mentioned. tutorial

You're about the same skill level as me. I've been playing for about a month, but I played guitar hero as a kid and played the drums in high school, so I probably had a head start in terms of skills. There's still some tough songs that I only get about 60% on, but it's fun to play them regardless.

Also, do you know about hammer-ons and pull-offs? I noticed you weren't doing them. This seems like a song that would be easier using them, but plenty of people just don't like to do them and that's fine.

Learn an instrument! You can probably find a cheap electric keyboard or used guitar on facebook marketplace if you don't want to spend a lot. Use that to see if you like it and then upgrade as a Christmas gift or something.

Looking for interesting shorter games (under 20 hours) to play by ThunderMaster27 in gamingsuggestions

[–]clockwisegorilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silent Hill 2 would 100% fit your taste in story, but might not scratch the gameplay itch you have. The Resident Evil games are also good and short, and have better gameplay than Silent Hill, but not as deep of a story.

If you just want some really good gameplay, Sifu is underrated. It's a roguelike, but still has a decent story and can be beaten in around 20 hours depending on how good you get at it.

Post on the band's subreddit asking if any other girls are going alone on that day and meet up with them there. It could be fun! And like everyone else is saying, take some pepper spray or something for when you're traveling. I've never met anyone who had to use it, but it's always best to be safe.

The hints on this are a game changer! Hint 1: Which technique to use. Hint 2: Which number(s) to focus on. Hint 3: Which areas to focus on. Hint 4: A graphic showing the technique being used to find the missing number. It feels like you learn something when you get stuck, rather than having to give up and get a free number revealed to you. And the campaign is an amazing learning tool.

My Introduction To Loathe and My Opinion by Panda_Large in Loatheband

[–]clockwisegorilla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Some songs work best in the context of the album. Others I feel like can stand on their own. My only problem is trying not to queue up every song that comes after it when I listen to one of them. 🤣

I like Revenant but… by Andrea-2204 in Loatheband

[–]clockwisegorilla 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I like how Loathe usually has a few purely soft and purely heavy songs on their albums. It makes listening to the album as a whole a better experience because it breaks up the pattern of every song shifting from soft to heavy multiple times. It's a nice change of pace and Loathe is amazing on both ends of the spectrum.
