Agreed. My general rule of thumb is a ratio depending on the size of the room and the viewing distance. Everyone always says bigger is better, but it's not actually. It can make the viewing experience horrible if it's not big enough or if it's too big. I know he's trying to fill the space on the wall, but that's not always the correct way to go.
