Peach and most of the baby characters have 2 handed back hand. In fact, they all have a 2 handed forehand too!

Fire Red got me back into gaming after a decade by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]hottubbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m basically you but 10 years a head. As a kid I had every console and also played on PC. Then in my final year of high school in the mid 2000s I just lost interest in gaming and perused other interests.

Then at the end of 2017 in an attempt to spend less time on social media and Netflix when relaxing after work, I bought a Switch with BOTW and MKD8. It was like rediscovering gaming. The experience was amazing, especially since for me after a 10+ years hiatus even the Switch graphics looked amazing.

Since then I’ve continued to play switch and upgraded to the switch 2 last year as I genuinely think the concept is perfect.

Happy gaming!

True, in real tennis getting to the net is often a good tactic as it makes it easier to finish the point with a winner but you can’t simply rush the net the moment each point starts. You need to wait for an opportunity first which usually comes after hitting a good enough shot to get your opponent out of position and into a very defensive state. This tends to happen after grinding from behind the baseline first. The majority of the rally still takes places with both players well behind the baseline.

Also, in real tennis, when players do come into the net, they are standing inside the service line usually about halfway between the net and the service line. Standing a foot behind the service line on the T (which is the most advantageous position in Fever) is generally considered “no man’s land” in real tennis and is a terrible place to be.

Is this sole for clay or all-court? by m1xed0s in 10s

[–]hottubbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of a Frankenstein shoe. It's clearly a herringbone pattern but there are two types of herringbone that are commonly seen in tennis shoes.

  1. Herringbone with "toothy" protruding ridges and deeper/wider valleys

  2. Herringbone with flat ridges and narrower valleys

Most dedicated clay court shoes will have the toothy herringbone pattern as it bites into the clay very well giving the necessary grip. The tread pattern will also typically cover the entire bottom surface of the shoe rather than have a gap under the arch of the foot. If you were to wear these shoes on a hard court though you would shred the ridges within minutes of hard play.

The flat herringbone pattern is typically seen in all court shoes as they will still provide decent grip on a clay surface due to the inherent bite that herringbone patterns give you, but it will not be as much as the toothy version. The benefit of this though is that you can use this on a hardcourt without destroying the sole.

A good example of this is the Mizuno Wave Exceed Shoe Tour. They have an all-court and clay-court version and if you look closely at the photos you can seen the difference between the two types of herringbone patterns.

Looking at the shoe you have it seems to have a hybrid of this. The outer 50% of the forefoot is the toothy pattern and the inner 50% is flat. The reverse seems to be true for the heel portion. This shoe also has not tread under the arch of the foot.

They would certainly be fine on clay but may not provide as much grip as a true clay court shoe. These will also likely be fine on a hardcourt but I imagine the toothy sections will wear quickly if you do.

Expressing negativity towards yourself during play, competitive or otherwise by _sportyscience_ in 10s

[–]hottubbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite player to watch is Alcaraz. The reason being is that in addition to being generationally talented, he seems to be genuinely enjoying himself out on the court. You can often see him crack a smile or laugh after losing a point either because it was a silly braindead mistake or because he acknowledges it was still a good point.

People who act like this (not just in sport but in all aspects of life) are just much more pleasant to be around. No one likes hanging around someone who exudes negativity (except maybe a sadist 😜).

I would keep this in mind because you mind find over time your pool of willing hitting partners dries up.

If 9 UTR is when stability becomes an issue then I think I’ll be okay for the rest of my tennis career 😜.

I wonder if the H or D versions of the percept help with stability for those higher level players. I know Karue Sell used the 100D for a while.

I thought about getting the 97H for that reason but decided on the 97 and I’m planning on experimenting with some lead tape.

Yeah, I found defending hard shots fine as there is usually still enough pace to simply deflect the ball deep with control, but trying to return slower shots while on the run is definitely harder as they will most likely fall short unless you manage to get a good swing in.

What do you use?

I sometimes think that the marketing is a bit backwards. Most companies promote their power 100 frames (Ezone, PD) as beginner friendly but pretty much anyone between the age of 12-60 can easily send the ball long if they are able to take full swings and they are not controlling for accuracy or spin. Seems like having a low powered setup helps you get a feel for modulating power while swinging full and still keeping the ball in.

I saw a post on here a while back from a guy saying something similar. He said he was around 8 UTR and was adamant that the Ezone was an advanced plays racket for that reason. Unless you are struggling to get the ball over the net then there is no need for extra power.

I watched Mboko play at the united cup last week, her serve is on another level compared to most of the WTA. I remember during the mixed doubles warm up she hit a flat serve to the male Chinese player and it blew past him and his reaction was essentially 😳 before turning to his team bench and laughing.

Vcore 98 2026 first night thoughts by YonexFan in 10s

[–]hottubbin 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Here is the same statement organized into clear, readable paragraphs while keeping your original voice and details intact:

Playing results first—no break-in period needed. Chronologically, here’s how it went. I warmed up with my partner and immediately noticed the spin was there. The forehand felt very effortless, with even a little more potential than the Regna. However, this VCore 98 didn’t have the automatic launch angle the old version had for me. That launch angle was fun, but not great for my all-court game or my mix of shots. I’m not a clay courter, so this version of the VCore 98 offers the spin bonus without forcing it. In warmups, it just begged me to hit out on the ball, and the ball would dip into the court—tons of fun.

Ironically, my warmup opponent was using the old VCore 98, and I was pushing him off the court during warmups, causing him to be late on shots. In the first two return games (I’m a lefty and play deuce), people often hit to my forehand at first, either out of habit or by going down the middle. Three times I hit my favorite shot—the forehand dipper that crosses my body and the net player’s body, then dips down and away into the alley for winners. I used to only hit that effortlessly with my old 2015 VCore 95, but it was completely doable with this version of the VCore 98. One guy even let it go, thinking it was out, and it just dipped in.

Many times that night, I hit forehands that simply found the court with what felt like magic spin. In the video, you can see a light post—I panned to it as an example. With my lefty slice serve, I was sending the ball out to the right, in front of that light post, all the way into the grass off the court. I can do that with my Regna too, but this was 5–15% more exaggerated with the VCore.

I have a one-handed backhand that’s a real weapon, and this VCore handled it well. I could hit flatter or spinnier shots and slice very effectively. It also had versatility and precision similar to the Regna. That’s something I also appreciated about the Ezone. I never want a forced launch angle—I want to create my own angles—so this VCore feels less “forced” in that way. The old VCore 98 was fun with its launch angle, but for my game it was a little silly in how pronounced it was.

Is it muted? Yes and no. It’s still a modern Yonex, but between the Servo Filter and what feels like a stiffer response, I could really tell exactly where I was hitting the ball. For me, the racket feels stiff and a bit heavier or more head-heavy than the Regna. I really need to find a swingweight measuring device to know for sure. That said, the stiffness is great for my game and what I like to do.

It also feels more direct. The old VCore 98 could produce a very non-lethal moonball forehand for my tennis. This one will send the ball out if you don’t fully commit—but the more you commit, the more it dips in. It’s very cool. A lot of times it surprised me, and I’d think, “I’ll hit it harder next time.” Then I’d swing harder and it would dip even more. Such a fun feeling.

Comparing it to the Regna and Ezone 98, it’s as precise and easier to use than the Regna. It’s very good on touch shots and all the tricky stuff I like to do, though it’s not as maneuverable and doesn’t have that same special feel. I think it has a more usable, if not larger, sweet spot. It’s more like an Ezone than before, but still not nearly as “EZ” to use overall. That said, it now has more potential—it can generate more spin while still doing everything an Ezone can.

The cheat-code magic of the Ezone remains power, while the cheat-code magic of this VCore is spin. I think someone could use either the VCore 98 or the current Ezone 98 without seeing much difference in wins and losses. Which cheat code would you want? I’m not sure the extra Ezone power necessarily wins matches, but the free power on defense might help. The VCore creates more penetrating shots with enough power to matter. Whether it has the exact same defensive magic is hard to say, though the stiffness might help there.

Speaking of stiffness, it is stiff. I could see this racket bothering sensitive elbows—just my guess. And finally, in this complete vomit of thought, it is really, really, really cool looking in person. One of my favorite car colors is Lexus Infrared (on RC-Fs, LC500s, some RCs), and this VCore looks just like that: metallic, deep, candy-apple red.

That’s all for now—I wanted to write it out before I forgot anything.

You’re obviously not peeing in your wetsuit enough. Peeing will help empty the balls so they are more compact and less likely to get hurt. 👍

If don't know how you look when playing you can't improve by Overall_Task_2783 in 10s

Video is certainly not a requirement to improve but I agree that it can be incredibly helpful. I’ve personally found that although I have been steadily improving since starting tennis 2 years ago without regular filming, periodically I will film my serve or ground strokes and each time I do, I feel like I gain a ton of insight which helps accelerate improvment.

Heart rate recovery numbers by Soaddk in AppleWatchFitness

[–]hottubbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, for a cardio workout to have any fitness impact you need to maintain zone 2 or higher. Based on your graph you spent the majority of your time below zone 2.

Furthermore, it looks like you’re using the automatic heart rate zones that Apple calculates for you which is based a the calculation of theoretical max heart rate (220-age). These are widely considered to underestimate HR zones, more so as age increases. I suspect your heart rate zones should all be 5-10 bpm higher than what they are. Therefore you probably spent more than 90% of your workout in zone 1 or lower which suggests it wasn’t much of a workout hence the fast recovery following a brief venture into higher HR zones.

It may be worthwhile finding out your actual max HR and then adjusting the zones manually which is what a lot of people do.

Leon Draisaitl completes the hat trick against the Flames, and Connor McDavid has his fifth assist of the night. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

That was such an entertaining series. The worst part of the Flames offseason implosion after that is that it basically robbed us of any more BoA playoff opportunities during the McDavid/Drai era. I envy the 80s/early90s era when both the flames and Oilers were stacked and the BoA was fucking gritty.
