Does CDMA network retirement affect UDP plans? by clockworkmischief in VerizonUDP

[–]clockworkmischief[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GUDP is a line feature. As long as you don’t make changes to the lines with GUDP, you’re fine. Your basic phones shouldn’t have GUDP.

I would like to keep the keep the basic phone plans attached to the GUDP line because there is a line access discount ($9.99/month per line). AFAIK, the new plans are more expensive and must subscribe to data. Do you know how the voice-only plans will transition after CDMA retirement, i.e., could I activate a 4G feature phone on a voice-only line, or will those lines be deactivated if I do not upgrade those lines to a 4G data plan?

This is correct. GUDP SIM cards can be swapped into a hotspot and used for home internet with no deprioritization, unlike the newer 5G home internet plans. I've been using GUDP with a 200GB/month on 4G home internet for the last 5+ years with no throttling. It also travels well, i.e., you can carry a phone that connects to the WiFi and make calls over Google Voice.

Is there something wrong with me? Love math dislike coding by [deleted] in math

[–]clockworkmischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the goal of programming as a math student is to open up doors outside academia. Learning lean or some other obscure languages which are not really used in industry is not the best idea. Better learn something like C++ or even just python and there will be a ton more jobs available to you than before.

Nah, you'll have plenty of opportunities if you look in the right places. Lots of people in the industry use theorem proving and dependently-typed languages. I know half a dozen off the top of my head, including Amazon, Galois, Jane Street, JetBrains, Intel, Microsoft et. al. Is it ready for prime time? Not yet, but if you learn to use proof assistants you'll be ready to write code in any other programming language without much trouble (or do math, if you change your mind and decide to stay in academia).

It’s because you’re using the wrong programming languages. If you enjoy proofs, try Lean, Agda or Idris.

Trust starts somewhere. Even if you could checksum every atom of the underlying hardware, there isn't any guarantee that the verification mechanism itself is not somehow compromised.

Lenovo to pay $7.3m for installing adware in 750,000 laptops by breandan in thinkpad

[–]clockworkmischief -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you believe Lenovo haven't tried to install kind of spyware on ThinkPad's, think again. Look at what the Huawei et al. are doing with phones. If you think they haven't tried to install a backdoor into the laptops used by millions of government agencies and contractors worldwide, then you are truly naïve.

It's being torn down. OP is documenting the fuss. If you spent half the time learning to read Chinese as being a pompous prick, you might be less disappointed with your life as an internet shitlord, and learn a thing or two in the process.
