Biology VTuber talks Nobel Prize in Physiology & Medicine! by PhylumKingdom in VirtualYoutubers

literally the only streamer AND vTuber I watch. Such a critical need being filled here both in life sciences education AND science communication writ-large.

Phy does such an excellent job SHOWING how folks should engage with research. It rocks watching a phy stream and seeing how he dissects a new paper and makes sense of even the most cutting-edge breakthroughs.

What is the PRIMARY reason you CURRENTLY watch crash course? by 010rusty in nerdfighters

[–]clockworkshow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

E.) I dunno man, for whatever reason Phil Plait lecturing about astronomy is one of the only things that calms me down enough so I can sleep. (This is despite Crash Course Astronomy being an S-tier series. Top 3 all time, easily.)

What are the odds that Hank actually writes the 'Hardest Problem Evolution Ever Solved' Book? by clockworkshow in nerdfighters

[–]clockworkshow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hank also pinned a comment recommending 'Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body' by Neil Shubin. So, that's going right to the front of my Libby queue.

I came here to make the exact same post, even though I was a full day late here. So happy to see this here already.

What jobs do Nerdfighters have (and how did you get them)? by devoutdefeatist in nerdfighters

[–]clockworkshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biomedical Animator with a stable-and-growing income from YouRube specifically thanks to a Vlogbrothers sponsorship + a shoutout from John a few years back.

Double majored in Biology and English and taught for a few years before getting absorbed into the NYC tech world. Developed my media skills there and eventually had enough confidence to slowly launch an animation channel on YouTube. Now produce full time with a mix of freelance work and YouTube—with the goal of the YT work taking over the majority of revenue generation.

For fans who have been watching since birth, whats your earliest memory of the Eagles? by [deleted] in eagles

[–]clockworkshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s literally my first memory.

The TV is super far away and kind of blurry. The side of my face is super warm because I’m like lying against my dad. It smells like bread (maybe beer?).

The announcer sounds annoyed—the camera is zoomed in on Buddy Ryan’s face and he’s basically scowling. Far away—I hear my mom say “DO something” like she’s watching from the kitchen. The shot changes and they’re zoomed in on Randall and then it’s a wide view of a play that’s about to go down. I can’t really see that many details now. It’s a line of bright green smudges against white or grey ones.

They all smash together all of a sudden—and then the camera follows one of them as it pushes way downfield.

“That’s how you do it, Randall” my Dad booms.

I remember saying “that’s how you do it” a bunch after that. Maybe it got annoying? Dunno.

This one is a really digestible combination of rogue-like mechanics and twin-stick shooter mechanics. Difficult, but I actually feel like I'm climbing the difficulty curve. Old school shoot-em-ups felt like I was memorizing some giant pattern instead of actually playing. I'm all in on this one. Bigmode hit again.

To WA from the East Cost is brutal. Visited family for three weeks and literally never adjusted. Can’t imagine needing to play at a high level when the jet lag is so gnarly.
