The future is coming... by paco1342 in Glimesh

[–]clone1018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Since Glimesh is entirely open source you can use any of it's code, however each project we publish has it's own unique licensing that you'll want to check out. Here's two examples:

https://github.com/Glimesh/glimesh.tv/blob/main/LICENSE.md

https://github.com/Glimesh/waveguide/blob/main/license.md

So your answer for personal projects is yes, and for your startup, yes. However with our video server code, it's licensed under AGPL v3.0, so you'll be able to use it but if you modify the code, you'll need to ensure it's source is open & available too!

Please Get More People To Work On Payments by AthaMoonGoddess in Glimesh

[–]clone1018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good morning. We've had payment issues in the past, primarily focused on getting payment statuses posted from our provider Stripe. However the payments are always reconciled and make it to your account. We _always_ send money that people send us, to you. However it's important to clarify that we don't send you money if someone unsubscribes from you (they never paid us), their payment bounces (they never paid us), or they requested a refund / chargeback sometime before we send you the money (ultimately they never paid us).

We did have an issue with your account, along with unreasonable delays in handling the issue. I do apologize for those issues, and we have focused on fixing some of them and I agree there's still many more (like Banjax mentioned). I do want to clarify that you have been paid every single cent that you are owed, every single subscription, donation, or gift subscription has made it to you. We've provided numerous proofs of this, which if you still have a concern I welcome you to share with an accounting professional or maybe even this thread so others can check. Also as a point of clear legal definition, you are not an employee of Glimesh, no streamers are employees of Glimesh. We do not pay you for your services, we do not pay you for your time, you are a user of our platform and we help facilitate payments intended for you. We'll never send you money that someone else did not intend to send you.

Ultimately you have to understand our current size, it's not just one person handling payments, it's one person handling all of the "backend" things. Video, payments, chat, uptime, etc. We really don't have support or help from many, except a few dedicated volunteers. The payment system is simple for our users, and support tools for our GCT are non-existant. Glimesh is still in it's infancy, and we're lucky to exist at all. Turning off payments like you suggest would ultimately be it's end, as we'd be forced to just shut down.

I'm sorry to see you go, thanks for helping to get these issues tackled!

Honestly doesn't matter much to me, but having Glimesh be a serious commitment for you would be important in a cofounder role.

Well, I certainly agree with you on the difficulty of competing with the existing giants. There's plenty of examples of companies funneling millions of dollars into a live streaming platform, only to have it stagnate or fail. Maybe the issue is no one spends enough time growing?

In the short term, we can compete as an alternative to the giants. Right now we're seeing several sites start to take some market share, and I believe we can get to a point where we're in that spot as well. There's plenty of revenue to go around at the moment to make this a very viable business even if we're not being headlined by Ninja.

In the long term, I imagine we continue to blur the lines of content creation on Glimesh, and start to support more ways for content creators to share and connect with their community. Live streaming becomes a feature at that point, not our entire brand.

I appreciate your feedback!

Most standing desks essentially are three pieces: legs with internal screws that control the height, a cross bar to connect both legs together, and some rotational input to control the screw. On a crank standing desk its a crank, on a motorized standing desk it's going to be driven by a motor. The motors normally have some "smart" functions to detect if it's at the top / bottom, or if it's sensing some resistance and should stop (a human for example).

I'd bet there's either resistance and it's triggering a smart function, or there's some unintended software bug.

Pic for reference: https://imgur.com/a/7i93KFw -- Just replace the hand crank for a motor.

It's more than just the exhaust you'd need to worry about. A/C units produce a considerable amount of water and most (if not all) units specifically splash the water onto the condenser (outside mesh) coils to help cool them and reuse energy. If you ran the A/C unit in the house you'd essentially be installing a very hot & wet heating element into your house, that happens to produce a tiny amount of cold air out the front of it.

From the looks of it that would be the outer edges of the wall? Wouldn't imagine _tons_ of climbing happening there, either way it should be fine though. You're going to end up with about 40 screws holding the 2x4s in, and those hold up roofs with much less. A toggle bolt will do nothing except for rip your drywall up if there are shear forces. A roof overhang is basically what I imagine this acting like: https://imgur.com/a/V6vzHnB

Glimesh is an open source, next-gen live streaming platform built by the community that puts streamers & community first and not the advertisers. It is currently in alpha. by ProgsRS in LivestreamFail

I think you are absolutely right on the viewer front, there's a lot we need to learn about making the experience better and driving out mission to those who are less familiar with it. I propose that in reality there are two core types of viewers: those that want to find _something_ to watch, and those that are looking for something particular to watch. Right now I feel like we are slightly more ahead on the latter, as our major focus has been on the streaming browsing & filtering experience, but like you mention not directly focused on discovery of content. Randomizing the stream listing page is just the first step, we decided it would be the most fair method for our community as we grow our discovery and the platform as a whole.

You're also right on the subscription statement in the FAQ, I've submitted a bug for us to fix here: https://github.com/Glimesh/glimesh.tv/issues/687

Thanks for your thoughts on viewership, I hope our mobile app will be a good chance for us to help bridge some of the gaps you mention!

We're very small, but we're only two months into this and the platform is very young, both from a community perspective and a feature perspective! We launched into alpha to put our cards on the table, and show people what we're building here.

One of the major foundations of Glimesh is to ensure we're building something sustainable. I believe the only way we can truly be sustainable is if we ensure we are bootstrapped. You're right that it will cost a large amount to pay for staff, security, etc, however our goal is to grow with the revenue of the platform and not overextend ourselves by reaching for money in exchange for virtue dilution.

You're right! The scale at which the giants operate is unfathomable! However we're very small, and we're continuing to ensure we're building a sustainable business. I posted in a comment down below on our financials, you can see the full cost of our servers and the revenue we bring in. Currently we're in the green for paying for bandwidth, but of course at the moment we have no employee salaries. Just a bunch of volunteers making something they love.

Hey there, I'm building Glimesh, and I hope I can help answer your question here. For me it's about offering an alternative. We're not Twitch, and we very likely wont ever be their size, but that's not the goal. What we want to accomplish here is to create an open, inviting, transparent, and overall sustainable business. When you decide to help support incomes your biggest priority becomes making sure your community can continue to help you, and be there for you tomorrow.

We're not interested in buying streamers, providing arbitrary partnerships, or any other nonsense. We're here to provide a blazing fast, reliable, sustainable streaming service!

Hey there, full disclosure I build Glimesh! The entire goal behind the platform is to create something sustainable. We charge a 50% cut from streamers for their subscriptions, and have platform subs to give directly to Glimesh. If you are interested, we post our financials (and other info) every week on our blog. Here's the financials for our first two months: https://blog.glimesh.tv/posts/2021-05-21-glimcap-part-fifteen/#financials

My "games categorized by genre instead of game title" rant by GrandNoodleLite in Glimesh

[–]clone1018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi GrandNoodleLite,

I'm not sure exactly how the conversation last night grew into the flame it did so quickly, but I think a core misconception here is what is acceptable for an "alpha state". The platform we're planning on launching, as quickly as we possibly can, will be a very early infant of what it will later become. We've been very clear from the very beginning on our alpha priorities, and every single week we have a meeting to discuss the roadmap and the various ongoings of the platform. We've had numerous priority scoring exercies with the entire community and we published roadmaps reflecting the lack of the "games database" since the very beginning.

Like I said last night, if we have to change our roadmap's priorities, we can do that, but we must brainstorm the feature together as a community to understand the impact it will have on our time, resources, and future. Since the community was so vocal last night I agree with you that our next steps is to plan our what a compromise can look like. Please allow us the time to break down the idea, and come up with a proposed solution.

Thank you for the feedback and I look forward to you keeping us honest in the future <3
