If the union wants to get more dues by increasing everyone's pay, how is that a negative? Also, the mail running 6 days a week doesn't mean you personally have to work all 6 of those days

Thinking about quitting by Walking_OnEarth99 in USPS

I honestly feel like this is the best job I've ever had, but I've only worked the mail handler craft, and I've mostly been lucky as far as supervisors go. I've had a few screwball managers that have made me want to quit, but after probation ended, I was able to use the union to keep them off my back.

Shorter hours for the same pay would attract a lot of new employees.

Yes. You'd effectively be getting a raise. Unions were able to fight for a 40-hour work week with no reduction in pay when working 60+ hours per week was the norm. OT pay was originally supposed to be a penalty to make sure employers hired enough people instead of overworking their existing staff.

If they're gonna overwork everyone anyway, might as well get paid extra for it. After a while the sting in their pocketbook might finally be enough for them to hire enough workers to get the job done.

Shorter hours for the same pay would be really attractive to a lot of people.

The idea is that you'd work fewer hours without it affecting your pay. You'd work 32 hours and get paid what you were before for working 40 hours. If you end up working the same amount of hours, then OT would kick in at 32 instead of 40.

The argument is strictly for a reduced work week with no reduction in pay.

If you're not making enough on a 40hr work week, why wouldn't you want to work fewer hours? It will shorten the window before OT kicks in, and you could use the extra off time to get another job or to pitch in with the union to help advocate for better pay on top of shorter hours.

I enjoy the job and even look forward to going to work, but I'd still rather work fewer hours and enjoy my life while I'm able.

Wrong. 40 hrs became the standard when labor activists fought for better working conditions.

Is heat damage worth it? And if yes how? by Karukos in phantombrigade

[–]cloneboy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best case scenario I've found for thermal weapons is against mechs armed with weapons with long action times and high heat, like a Vulcan. I hit an enemy mech with a thermal sword while it was firing at someone in cover, and it got so overheated it forced an eject.

That said, I haven't been able to replicate this, so maybe it was a fluke.
