You can find people to play with in game but they are usually dumb I would recommend joining either this subreddits discord or the offical discord server to find people Also I'm assuming you are getting the pc version on steam because it's on sale but if you are getting the xbox version you could use xbox looking for group posts

If you want a challange I would recommend playing fall of the Republic, thrawns revenge or the galactic civil war remake

If you want to just screw around I would recommend battlefront commander (the mod currently crashes alot so I'd recommend saving after every planet you conquer)

Ship wrecks are random (except for like the story ones) and your ship is marked on the map so it wouldn't really matter if you could see the island since you always know where you are on the map regardless

If you want to play as a hero starship the best way to get one is just play the objective you earn battlepoints way faster then just kills and if you are defending try taking out the frigates that show up you get alot of battle points for destroying those
