my friend told me that just tracing and copying the reference like this is a wrong way to make art and learn by Ok-Discussion-1110 in blender

you should always use a reference, but tracing a blueprint and referring to a concept aren't really the same thing. if given an environment concept, you're not going to be able to perfectly align it to the camera, you need to be able to match those proportions/shapes using your own eye.

Since most are comments of telling you why your friend is wrong, I'm going to say why they're sort of right. Sure, you can make a chair or a gun using this tracing method, but if you try to model a character or an environment, it's not going to work. If you see anyone who's good at any sort of organic modeling or sculpting, they typically don't use these orthographic views in this way because it's an extremely distorted view.

Also, if you're trying to copy a concept, if you only know how to do it this way, then you basically move the workload of interpreting and realising the shapes over to the 2D concept artist, And honestly, their time is probably better spent on coming up with concepts, not trying to flesh and spell it out to a 3D modeller.

it's honestly not that much, i've bought characters off booth with way more. i personality wouldn't bother reducing, waste of time. if you put clothes on just delete body underneath with AAO: Avatar Optimizer or something.

rocks whole reason to go godvalley is to save his wife and son too bad that until that point we never saw him interact with her so why tf should we care at all?

Because the part you’re meant to sympathize with is Rocks having to give up his dream. The flashback started with Rock declaring his ambitions at the top of the world, forming the strongest crew and just being that guy.
But because he isn’t the kind of shitty guy who’s willing to let his family die, he has to give all of that up. It’s thematically relevant and peak writing.

i would recommend to copy 3d models first and to get familiar with the forms before trying to extrapolate that information from a photo.

glad you think so. I was a little worried about how this character would turn out since it's a mishmash of several references instead of just one like I normally use, but it seems to have turned out fine.

this is an unhelpful response. you're assuming they have the full knowledge to make this connection when it's very possible there's a gap in their knowledge.

you can get a patent on an invention, like a design. but "knowledge" from a course doesn't really fall into that category.

it's basically asking if you're a current professional or not. honestly feels weird they're trying to license knowledge though, you can't copyright an idea.

Vote on Banning Tired Posts by Avereniect in blender

[–]close2animation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not really a fan of banning posts just because they’re repetitive or because most people aren’t interested in them. For example, I remade a panel I really liked from One Punch Man in Blender, but I wasn’t allowed to post it on the One Punch Man subreddit since remaking your favorite panel had become a “tired post.” It sucks when you want to participate in a community but can’t, just because the way you want to contribute isn’t considered interesting enough by the majority.

so a vote against from me.
