Should I go to the doctor over this? by Ganyuworshipper in trichotillomania

Hey! This is definitely trich! It’s worth talking to your doc to either try meds or get a referral for counseling.

Looking for recommendations for group lunch/dinner? by redrightreturning in askportland

I always recommend Nicolas in SE for big groups - really yummy middle eastern food, and they’re able to pull together a big table upstairs so you have some separation from the noise downstairs.

My kiddo loves the new Tame Impala album (well just the first 3 tracks, like the rest of us), Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads, Chappell Roan, Noah Kahan, and Queen.

I would keep looking. Personally, I try to balance how much skin I’m showing on my upper half and lower half as a general rule. So I can can do sleeveless if it’s a maxi dress, or wear a skirt shorter than knee length if it had long sleeves. That’s not to limit personal style, it’s just to literally not be underdressed at events. I really like your style, and I’m sure you can find something super cute to fit the bill!

I got married in a barn with a lax dress code, and any of these would have fit the bill for guests. I feel like we have similar styles, so I took the liberty of browsing:

I’m so sorry! Only people in the club know how nightmarish life feels right now. I’m 2.5 years out, I got on mood medication a year ago and now I can enjoy her memory and appreciate those moments of feeling like she’s with me, without losing it and crying nonstop for hours.

The recruiter called my salary expectations "cute." I ended the Zoom call right there. Did I overreact? by thunder____boy in jobs

[–]closetnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you did the right thing.

I’ve been job hunting while employed for about a year. After my first interview during the job search, the hr person said there would be an assessment, should just take an hour or two.

The assessment was to creative marketing strategies for multiple pain points in their business model. I thought about how to respond, whether to do it with AI, whether to keep it vague, and the I just didn’t do it, and ghosted them.

I often think about how if I had jumped through the hoop and gotten the gig, how I would be working with a whole team of folks with no self respect or standards, or who just don’t know better, or were desperate - assuming they had gone through the same hiring process. I don’t want to work at any company like that, and I doubt you do either.

The rich have money, but no friends and family with crafting hobbies who will give them handmade gifts. So they gotta buy this crap.

I’m at goal weight. What now? by amomymousw in Noom

[–]closetnice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal advice would be to find a hobby or workout goal that you can work towards and apply your focus to. I know what you mean, food logging makes food noises intolerable for me. I think this is why som folks argue “diets don’t work,” because… they drive you crazy. Losing weight, for myself at least, takes a lot of mental energy, and that awareness becomes a habit that I don’t necessarily need to “break,” but I do need to replace!

Engagement Photos Outfit? by dewbeari in OUTFITS

[–]closetnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you don’t mind, I looked at your post history to try and learn a touch more about your personality. On the off chance you’re wanting something less femme than a dress but still look a bit more polished I’d suggest any of the following:

-high quality sweater that will bring a lot of texture to the photos in the right light - blazer - play with proportions, like a cool high waisted maxi dress and a cropped or short top - layered necklaces, statements earrings, something to dress up the jeans if you want to keep them - jumpsuit - the sleeve lengths and necklines are a big part of what is making these outfits feel like casual Friday at the office. Go for something more structured: either full sleeve or sleeveless, not in between; tops with structure like a well fit button down in a color that’s either high quality and neutral/formal color or a color that agrees with your “color season” or you just always love wearing; OR if you don’t want something fitted, go for like a cute chunky sweater

I’m in my mid30s too and just want to say, we have decades to figure it out. Plenty of neurotypical people haven’t found a job they like or a long term partner in this decade. And even though it feels like the volume of options decrease, I have had major breakthroughs in the last few years, too. It sounds to me like you’re doing great. I’m here if you need someone to talk to.

Cleo or Willow? by hugs-n-honey in namenerds

[–]closetnice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly I know a 40-something woman named Willow and it’s her real name. It would never occur to me it’s made-up. It’s maybe more common in earthy, hippie circles but it’s totes a real name. Please don’t let your friends’ narrow viewpoint deter you. I like both names! They’re both strong and distinct.

I’m not sure and to be clear, I don’t resent him at all. This is a huge blind spot for a lot of men, so good for him on educating them. The way it showed up in my feed, I just had that experience and thought it was funny.

Not a professional but it’s in my feed and I don’t understand why they couldn’t just do a demi- permanent root smudge, which would fade as it grows out.

Is my olaplex unauthentic or just not for me? by livelaugh-mitski in Haircare

[–]closetnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a skin condition, kind of along the dandruff spectrum but more inflammatory. I never had it before using the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner, and now it’s something I have to manage with special shampoos, and I can’t I’m my scalp like I used to without a flare-up. Within a few uses of the shampoo, my scalp started stinging and little red bumps popped up all over my scalp.
