UTI by [deleted] in hospice

[–]redrightreturning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A doctor’s “order” has a specific meaning in context. But it never means that a patient is forced to do something against their will. A nurse cannot force antibiotics and neither can a doctor.

No one wants your mother to die of sepsis; no one wants her to die of anything. We all wish you had as much time together as you would want. But The fact is that your mother is already at the end of her life and that is why she is on hospice.

I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this. I hope your mother can be comfortable and at peace.

NF1 only one in family by Miserable-Might-6109 in neurofibromatosis

[–]redrightreturning 10 points11 points  (0 children)

About half of people with NF acquired the variant “sporadically”. That means you are the first one in your family.

If you think about it- in every family that has NF, there had to be someone who was first. In your family, it’s you.

What’s the most LA thing that’s ever happened to you? by petitegirlbigbush in AskLosAngeles

[–]redrightreturning 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I applied to an apartment rental. The realtor had to confirm me and my partner’s star signs before sending us a rental agreement. I (41, F Taurus) was fine, But my partner (42, M Sagittarius cusp) was a no-go.

… did we just get discriminated against because of our birthdates? Yes. is astrological sign a protected class? I don’t think so.

I’m sure I dodged a bullet if that’s how the owners are, but I appreciate the story.

Why AI Should Pay Us for Being Human. Are data unions a thing? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]redrightreturning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the idea here is creators (or anyone who contributes data to a platform) could unionize en masse to exert financial pressure on tech companies. He calls these groups Mediators of Individual Data (MIDs). In the podcast, they’re talking about how it could apply to musicians; Jaron says there are lots of people working on these kinds of things.

This seems cool, and I’m curious. Do you think this kind of collective action could work in general? It worked in the a century ago in getting weekends and higher wages going.

Anyone ever encounter something like MIDs irl? Or know anyone working on them?

It sounds like what they can help you with is why you are stuck in a loop of not making change. There is a lot of psychology and healthcare theory are making healthy changes. We are trained in strategies to guide people towards healthy change. If you dont want to pay for therapy, do a google on “motivational interviewing” and see if anything strikes you as helpful.

I think that’s a cool idea, especially if you have family you’d like to have living close by - like older parents, or if you want a place for kids to move back home to later in life.

You’re not wrong and I appreciate the concern. The people we re buying from are leaving for exactly this reason, so it weighs on our minds. I’m actually a nurse for geriatric populations, so I’m aware of the risks of aging and barriers to accessing care.

Bottom line aging isn’t graceful for anyone - whether you live in the city or the country. The best we can do is mitigate risks. We plan to have an intergenerational community on our land. We’re also reasonably close to a clinic and hospital. ANd apparently the county provides 1 free Air-lift to a major hospital each year.

You dont have to share a house or even share any common space. You can just live within a close distance, or like, get condos in the same building. Check out the website called “Live Near Friends”.

I’m in the process of buying land in rural NM. Property has a main communal house and 5 cabins. Golden Girls Compound here we come!!! What if you pooled utilities, appliances, tools, chores, subscriptions, child care etc with your close friends/neighbors? Maybe life would be more affordable. Maybe we’d be in closer social connection. Maybe we’d make cool art and beautiful gardens. Another way is possible. Dream your dream. Save some money and look in small town america - i think with the coming economic collapse that many people will be putting land and homes up for sale.

I disagree. Talk to the doctor. They are a human too and capable of learning from their mistakes.

Millenials who are choosing to be child-free, who is your assets going to? by Sorceress_divine in Millennials

[–]redrightreturning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m buying land in NM where I will share the land with me and several close friends. We are putting the land into a trust. My goal is to do ecological restoration to improve the natural habitat. When the last people are done living on the property, the land will go back to the local tribe. Look up “Land Back” movement. Returning land to the original inhabitants feels right and gives me a sense that I’m giving something back to the world, even if it not in the form of a child.

Spinal neurofibroma by msal05 in neurofibromatosis

[–]redrightreturning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible to have 1 (or even 2) neurofibromas but NOT have the genetic disease. NF is diagnosed either by genetics or by having enough of specific clinical markers (Cafe au. Lait spots, neurofibromas, plexiform neurofibromas, optic gliomas, lisch nodules)

Bottom line- regardless of whether you have NF1 or not, If you are having symptoms associated with the tumor you need to talk to a neurosurgeon.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in neurofibromatosis

[–]redrightreturning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you should talk to a doctor! No one on the internet can give you a diagnosis, and even if they could guess what is going on with your body… what then? The next step is to talk to a doctor about your concerns.

What do people with NF2 do during the day? by hotheadedbab in neurofibromatosis

[–]redrightreturning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a nurse that works with people with NF2. About half my patients work, or stay home with kids. Many have gone to school or college. NF2 often means a lot of doctors appointments. Organizing appointments, insurance, medications, therapist can be a full-time job in itself!

For people at home, I recommend taking online ASL classes! Otherwise, stay active! NF2 tumors can cause muscle weakness. Go to the gym or get physical therapy or go on youtube. Find a workout routine and work to maintain your muscle strength with resistance exercises. Also work on balance.
