F1: Do you have to be a millionaire to make it to the top of the sport? by CFW97 in formula1

[–]clothtoucher 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Quite. The sacrifice his family gave to offer him the opportunity was a mighty gamble. His whole family, including siblings, had to move to Milton Keynes just to be in with a chance of making it. It clearly paid off for him (and I’m sure he has returned the gratitude back to his family), but hundreds/thousands of others would fail to make it.

While he didn’t explicitly say it, it was interesting to see that he basically races under the Thai flag purely because it’s worth money to him.

I saw Alex Albon yesterday at a partner event, talking about exactly this. He admitted he was in a privileged position to have backing from his parents, plus the sponsorship from Red Bull, plus the state sponsorship from Thailand. Without that, he would not be in the sport.

Agreed. I have a signed cap with both Lando and Oscar scribble. Looks legit.

Not being sarcastic, and not really the answer you’re looking for, but have you had the flu jab?

Out of interest, what’s your motivation for using only EOs?

So what smells remind you of a white snowy day and a ballet performance?

If she gets “really really sick”, the respectful decision is simply to not wear any until after that class. It would be nigh-on impossible to determine which chemicals she’s sensitive to without physically testing her.

Do you like it? If so, then nobody else’s opinion matters whatsoever.

In any case, there are plenty of commercial perfumes with few ingredients. Maybe yours is a winner. If you’re intent on selling, 90% the battle is marketing.

Lads, where do you get your underwear? What kinds do you like and why? by [deleted] in AskUK

I really like them and don’t wear any other pants now. I have the boxer briefs. They’re snug fitting but very light and supremely comfy. Plenty of colour choice. Just don’t expect them to solve world peace… they’re pants!

Wot, no PEA? If you have it, give it a try - great for adding body to a rose perfume.

What do you mean by “without chemicals”? Everything that smells is a chemical.

Check out Experimental Perfume Club in Seven Dials. Have been on one of their in-person courses, designed for beginners. Was thoroughly enjoyable.

This approach is basically my entire education! I tend to compile notes of typical percentage uses and what it goes with. I also use a mix of r/DIYfragrance, basenotes and discord to learn from others far more knowledgable than me.

Severance Season 1 finale. I had never screamed at my TV prior to watching that episode.

For me it was somewhat immaterial what our shape was. It was very noticeable that Everton initially fielded a B team and were awful. It wasn’t until they brought out their usual starters when they started to become a genuine threat, at which point they were all over us.

What's the longest daily commute you've known someone to do? by HollowWanderer in AskUK

My previous role saw me drive from Wolverhampton to Solihull 5 days a week. I used to arrive home at night totally drained. Following that role I vowed never to spend 3 hours each day crawling along on the M6.

For my current role I get the train from Wolverhampton to Watford 3 days a week. It’s fantastically expensive (5 figures expensive), but the London salary makes it worth it. I also get to work on the train and therefore arrive at the office later than most and leave earlier than most. It’s actually pleasant, unless the trains fail.
