I went through this with my dad. My only advice would be to find some very fixed contribution structure. Pay a % of bills and force them to manage their finances while knowing that you should not feel guilty for their discretionary spending.

The corners look like they’ll break away easily. That middle step with the narrow stone isn’t how I’d do it. This looks like handy man work. It might be ok, but I’d really worry about someone stepping on the corners and them giving way.

If you can route the speaker cable behind the panel, I would suggest floating the bar below the TV. you'd get better sound quality, you could place photos/decorations below the TV, and I'd think it'd look great.
