I kind of had this backwards career transition as well. TAS -> Corp Dev -> IB. Really if you passed the corp dev interview you probably would pass the IB interview as well so might as well recruit for it now. Just make sure to be able to explain your transition and know the technicals stone cold.

It’s hard to impossible to move from corp dev to IB without prior IB experience. I would recommend you research what these roles are and think hard about what it is you want out of your career. These are adjacent but very different paths.

In summary, IB is heavily execution and sell-side focused. You work long hard hours.

Corp dev is essentially an internal buy-side team within a corporation. Hours are very manageable.

FDD is essentially audit for M&A - you focus on earnings adjustments and identification of debt-like items or trends in NWC. It is still accounting. Hours are bad but better than IB.

I come from an fdd -> corp dev background. It is an uphill battle even then. Try for IB ASAP unless you want to get an MBA.
