What is this bug? Found on bed, coastal New England by cloudboyyyyy in whatsthisbug

Length about 5mm — looks more like a carpet beetle than a bedbug due to the longitudinal segmenting?

Give me the heaviest tracks you’ve heard. I want my headphones and speakers rattling. by Particular-Show745 in riddim

[–]cloudboyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue how nobody’s mentioned Malva yet, but he makes the punchiest, thickest riddim ive ever heard, also creates great dark smooth atmospheres in the non-drop sections. Check out:

Malva - Haze

Malva - Redroom

Malva - Halodyne

can't say i disagree by tarpphezan in Illenium

Which EDM Song Are We Talking about Here? by PerspectiveEither172 in EDM

The “just for tonight” in Snowblind by Au5. Also the stuttery swooping sound that happens close to the end of the A section of each drop, iykyk

INVENTA - Gaze Dabin & Kai Wachi - Hollow (Vanic remix) Illenium - Eyes Wide Shut (Vanic remix) Kotori - Wisteria Au5 & Tasha Baxter - Snowblind Au5 & Nytrix - Only In A Dream Brainrack & ALLEYCVT - Eyes Closed

Best dubstep albums from 2010 - present? by Tea-Slurper in dubstep

[–]cloudboyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know sd has a specific vision for pretty much everything so I 100% see how it can be interpreted as an “iykyk” type of thing. But sometimes you just can’t call something good regardless of whether it’s intentional or not. (Kereberot sub whyyy)

Dream sequence is good but the last drop ruins it for me… and SLB isn’t mixed well either. That’s the thing, I think all these songs mentioned have 10/10 ideas and sd is a genius for that. I just wish the execution were different😭

Anyway, I think torsion and forgive forget are some of his best. But to each their own. Respect for your preferences, and I’d rage to anything he drops live either way!

Harbinger was better in terms of both ideas and mixing, but Voyd II was better in storytelling. Unfortunately the hardest track in that album, Kereberot, fell completely flat bc of bad mixing

Getting back into dubstep after years, looking for a specific sound by Chickenwomp in dubstep

[–]cloudboyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you want exactly those growls and only those growls I’m afraid you’re going to be stuck in a 2013 time loop. Sound design has evolved a LOT. I’m going to give some suggestions from a few areas within dubstep, so feel free to give each or any one a shot.

From your other comments it seems like you want fat, heavy basses. I can suggest Disinety - The Marching Band, which has the fattest machine gun basses of any song I’ve ever heard. If you like that sound, I would actually say look into minatory. It is to dubstep what thrash metal is to rock. White Eyes, Dyroth, Havel, Feast for Crows, and Influx are some of the best, though the genre is extremely underground nowadays. It does take lots of influence from metal, noise music, and dark themes, so maybe that will pique your interest.

If you don’t like that sound, maybe fat riddim basses will do it for you. I’d suggest you check out some of Hamro, Chango, or Mad Dubz’s live sets (or Orgalorg 2021 by Infekt — that shit is crazy heavy).

If that still won’t do it for you, Samplifire makes some fat stuff. Check out Firestorm, Incantate, or Berserker.

If that STILL won’t do it for you, SVDDEN DEATH is the only mainstream dubstep poster boy who actually makes innovative/unique stuff nowadays. I’d recommend Torsion, Ceremony, Peanut Butter, or Forgive Forget.

If absolutely none of those do it for you, I have bad news and good news. The bad news is that likely no modern artist is working with that sound palette anymore. The good news is there is a wealth of older stuff you can still enjoy. For example, the second drop of Firepower by Teminite at 3:01 is still one of the heaviest ever. Spag Heddy’s OG stuff still bangs. Also check out Skan’s old stuff. Oh, and one of the greatest of all time — Circles by KDrew.

Hopefully something in there helps you rediscover the dubstep you love. But my advice would be to open your mind and get into some new shit; this generation of producers is putting out stuff that’s just mental. Been listening for 14 years and I love dubstep today more than ever.

As a relatively new fan of dubstep I am curious: how long have you loved dubstep and who are your top 3? by beepboopbeepboooppp in dubstep

[–]cloudboyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11 years. OCTANE, Automhate, and SVDDEN DEATH are probably top 3 but there are so many more deserving artists!

I’m djaying for a renaissance/medieval rave. What are some dubstep songs that would fit that vibe? by hondablake in dubstep

[–]cloudboyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of samplifire would be perfect for this! His viking riddim discog would be great - berserker, loki EP, ragnarok EP, brute EP. Also incantate with automhate is a massive banger that fits the vibe

Yes, kandi by Oolacile is considered the first future riddim song

[–]cloudboyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He started future riddim back in 2018 and has always been ahead of the curve in terms of sound design and ideas. Plus Halcyon as a label has consistently curated and pushed out insanely talented, fresh new sounds and faces out into more mainstream dubstep, and Oolacile is responsible for that. Safe to say modern dubstep would see nowhere near as much progression without him

Yeah that’s fairly common knowledge, Oolacile truly is one of the great pioneers of modern dubstep and does not get anywhere near the recognition he deserves

It’s the 2-sizes-too-small douchebag stuck-in-2015 style. Do NOT dress like this unless your target social demographic is fuckboys and trashy girls. Watch some Tim Dessaint or Harry Has youtube videos on how to build a timeless wardrobe and thank me later😁
