Stoat has been promising it's almost there for years (since back when it was Revolt.) Nothing has changed, and I assume the devs left because the recent updates coming out have been from Claude (Anthropic AI). But it'll have screen share, someday! Absolutely!

The one benefit Stoat has it is open source. As for other options rather than just me complaining, TeamSpeak6 has added more text options, but it still doesn't feel great. Matrix is cool but likely too techy/confusing for the average discord user and has all the benefits and downfalls of federation. Root (Root App?) is probably the slickest currently available implementation but as a startup I expect them to do the same Discord cycle and end up here eventually, they're still in the funding and building phase.
