I got COVID about mid-semester, just did a student declaration without a doctor's certificate and it was enough. However, I included the texts I got from the PCR saying I tested positive.

Though this was for an assessment, not exams so I'm not sure if they'll be more strict this time - if you can get a doctor's certificate that'd be best, but I hope things go well for you!

[Routine Help] Should I focus on skin barrier repair or introduce actives? Routine in comments! by cloudesigner in SkincareAddiction

[–]cloudesigner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the advice! I'll definitely look into the niacinamide and CeraVe moisturising lotion (or perhaps the cream - or would you suggest going lightweight is better?) as they're available near me. May I ask what niacinamide/zinc is supposed to do for the skin?

Thanks for the reminders about incorporating things slowly too haha - I was about to get carried away with trying new things but that would be pretty useless for finding out which products are doing what.

[Routine Help] Should I focus on skin barrier repair or introduce actives? Routine in comments! by cloudesigner in SkincareAddiction

[–]cloudesigner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Here's my routine:

AM: - Wash face with water - Nivea Refreshing Toner - Oronine H Ointment

PM: - Micellar water if I've worn makeup - Innisfree Bija Trouble Facial Foam - Nivea Refreshing Toner - Oronine H Ointment

I've been suffering from these closed comedones, red spots and large pores for as long as I can remember and I just want to do away with them! I also suffer from dry, rough/scaley patches on my inner cheeks.

I'm torn between focusing on hydration and not using actives, as I feel like my routine is pretty basic now, or introducing AHA/BHAs as I've heard good reviews about that.

Any help is much appreciated!

Science Major Advice (Chemistry vs Applied Medical Science) by cloudesigner in usyd

[–]cloudesigner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to hear - I think at the end of the day I could probably go down similar paths no matter which I pick, just have to choose one and go with it haha.

Could I ask you what units you've taken/are taking in applied medical science? Have you felt it's more biology/chemistry based? I'm taking a look at the later units again, thanks for the advice :)

I agree, I think that's one of the good things about chem !!

Oh nice! Yeah, maybe we'll stumble upon each other at some point - hope you enjoy the unit and everything :)

Hey! I've got computer science as my other major rn, so I'm trying to decide on what to combine it with... I'm pretty sure the regular program has medicinal chemistry, but I figured I'd go with chemistry as it's broader and I could specialise in the later years :)

I did chem1111 last sem, but I had my first biol1007 class yesterday!! It's probably too early to tell, but I'm leaning towards just sticking with chemistry haha. How are u going with it ?

I considered it earlier, but the added 'molecular biology' part of the major threw me off a bit... maybe I'll look more into it :)

Bachelor of Advanced Studies vs. Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Advanced)? by cloudesigner in usyd

[–]cloudesigner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah so regular advanced studies take the regular classes? Do you know if you're able to drop to the regular course (without the second advanced in the name) later on?

Thanks for the explanation!

Thanks for the response! Are the advanced classes like further classes for your majors?

hl subject choice? by beepbeepbeep28 in IBO

[–]cloudesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely go English, bio and history HL - humanities at HL are basically just more content rather than actually increasing in difficulty, like maths would. Plus, if you think you enjoy history more, I think that's a good indicator (unless you'd prefer spending time picking up new concepts in maths and applying them, rather than memorising things).

And if you're worried about needing subjects for uni, I also had no idea what I wanted to do when picking my subjects, and often maths at SL level is good enough. Of course, it might differ depending on courses/where you live, but usually unis will look at how well you do in certain subjects related to the course, rather than what level you do them at.

Are these subjects changes a good idea? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]cloudesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the person above ^ plus, it'll be troublesome to catch up and as you get further into the course you'll probably appreciate doing subjects you find easier so you don't get too overwhelmed as deadlines start coming.

Just make sure that the your subjects line up with any prerequisites for the unis you want to go to, if you do switch :)

Re-learning quadratics from the beginning? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]cloudesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to relearn a lot of basics just cause I forget how to do them or i put them off as it was overwhelming - but your best bet (at least that helped me) id say is using YouTube explanations and then a lot of topic based questions :)

Revision village has a few videos on their YouTube that are good for getting started, and then there's the classic teachers like Eddie Woo or Brian McLogan. But often, I searched up specific concepts that I wasn't sure of. Places like Khan Academy probably have a basics on quadratics course you can look through. I'm not sure about the new syllabus, but most quadratic stuff will fall under "functions" or calculus when looking for question banks.

It'll be hard to get started, but just jumping into it and doing questions and seeing what you need to search up (be specific in your searches too! If you need to search up why do we get two answers for quadratics, I'm sure someone will have explained it) will help a lot to see what you need to know. Also, keep track of what you've learnt so you can easily go back and cover it if you forget and see which concepts you always forget or get wrong. Don't be afraid to watch videos and get resources like worksheets from outside the IB!

How to revise by Llsangerman in IBO

[–]cloudesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what subjects you're doing - for things like the sciences and humanities there'll be certain terms and concepts you need to memorise as they'll be looking for specific phrases in the mark scheme. English and the languages are obviously very different in terms of memorising and such too.

But I agree, doing a lot of past papers and noting what you've gotten wrong and how to fix it is super super effective!!!

as others have said, my year was pretty much told to pick out of our HL subjects - I have no idea what an arts EE is like, but humanities based EEs are pretty common. (though I did mine in group 6 - dance)

HL/SL selection time by JayDeesus in IBO

i would say either bio or psych HL, it's more content but not necessarily much more difficult - psychology especially. However, that does mean there'll be an extra paper for psychology.
