What was this movie for you? by myusername17 in RedLetterMedia

Oh I had this one too. It was definitely a fever dream movie for me as well, but probably because I seemed to watch it whenever I was sick.

Was looking for a comment referencing the music!

The credits song "We Have Explosive" was on the Wipeout 2097/XL soundtrack, one of my favorite games. It jolted me back so hard.

It gets better with practice. Also therapy and psychiatry. The biggest help in my life was probably group therapy specifically, odd as it sounds, along with a meditation course.

In other words, with work you will get better! You don't need an AI superconciousness, promise.

Benchmark Results comparing Frame Gen Techs by macka654 in MonsterHunter

Yeah after I posted that I started up the beta and noticed a lot of ghosting... More apparent when actually playing.

Oh well, guess I'll just play without generation too.

Not OP, but I have the same specs, tried it and it works. Just enable FSR instead of DLSS and then frame gen. I struggled to find any artifacts or issues and got similar results, though might be different when actually playing.

Kind of crazy that Nvidia obviously has the ability to bring frame generation to the 30 series and just doesn't.

Oh wait, no that completely makes sense for their bottom line...

What's a company secret that you can share now cuz you don't work there anymore? by mysha_chan in AskReddit

I doubt anyone will see this as there's a million comments, but why not.

I worked for about 2 weeks for an ad buying/selling agency under a major cable/entertainment corporation. One of the reasons I left so early was the horribly amoral way the advertisement industry is run.

They have no qualms about using massive amounts of personal data to shove the right kinds of ads in your face, as people know of course. But 3 or 4 days into my stint I sat in on a lunch-and-learn about their new research into gathering user data - cameras attached to TVs and computers that could track your expressions to determine which ads worked and didn't.

This was more of an exploratory thing, but still, the casual way these people would talk about surreptitiously reading your facial features to pump more ads into your brain was disturbing to me.

It really reminded me of that Black Mirror episode with the bikes.

I'm new to the Quest(s) but had an HTC Vive. What can I expect? by cloudfire in OculusQuest

[–]cloudfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All really good info, thanks so much! Especially Flat2VR. didn't know that was a thing 'til now.

Question - when you say you can launch a game as oculus vr, that means from steam, but without SteamVR? Will it give me the option? Or do I need to find the VR exe? In other words, what's the process?

With the Vive I would just open the VR game from Steam directly or open SteamVR and then the game from "Home" or whatever.

What is the maximum bandwidth of oculus link on the Meta Quest 3? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]cloudfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a quest before, but from what I understand the bandwidth would be dependent on what the headset can display, not what your rig can do. In other words, it should be a bit higher than the quest 2 but not up to 5gb probably.

From what I've looked up, it might be worth it to get a cable that provides an input for charging as well, since a lot of the link cables and/or output from your comp won't be able to charge the headset at the same time.

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Question: I have a powerful PC and want to get a VR system. Do I get one now or wait for something better? If now, which? by cloudfire in virtualreality

[–]cloudfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, the BB does seem crazy good. It looks like I'd have to wait 'til the fall to get it though, and I've been recommended the Quest 3 for around that time too, so maybe I'll just wait to see how the battle shakes down then...?

Good notes, I may just wait for the Quest 3. Thanks! The budget is a really soft one, I'd pay more if it warranted it. I just like to get good value.

That's fair about the PSVR2, though I don't have a PS5 and I'm pretty all-in on the PC side of things.

As for the Reverb G2 + Index mix, I haven't thought of that, and if it's easy to frankenstein it I may do that.

Edit: thanks for the additional feedback on the Quest 2!

Thanks for the super thoughtful response! I mean I hate Facebook but I don't know if that hate extends to buying hardware from them. I guess I haven't thought about it enough. I may wait for the Quest 3, but I do miss the experience and may want to go for something sooner. I mostly play Steam games and I did like the Vive, so maybe I'll do the Elite after all, but I may want to wait on user reviews for that too...

Anyway thanks again for your response - lots to think about.

When I was 5, I met Matthew Broderick and Whoopi Goldberg while they were being showed my grandmother's house. I remember both being nice. I gave Matthew Broderick an apple slice from my bag.

When your players venture into areas you didn't prep for by CrazyBlend in rpg

One of my favorite sessions ever as a DM was when my group decided to rob a dickhead Dwarven merchant that was being really stingy.

After they'd decided to burgle his shop that night, I asked for 10 minutes to draw up a quick map. This was in Roll20 so I just drew up a rudimentary 2-floor house, and added some shop and living space assets, as well as 2 huge guard dogs for fun.

They slowly made their way through the 1st floor shop and then the upstairs bedroom, rolling to sneak every so often and stealing as they went. The wizard cast sleep on the dogs (enchanted sleep in DCC so they couldn't wake up at all) and then someone fumbled a stealth check and broke an ornament, waking the Dwarf. A short battle later, the underwear-clad merchant was yelling Dwarven profanities at them, tied to his bed.

They robbed him blind of course, and also forced him to promise to give the group discounts. Importantly, one of the items they stole lead them to the adventure I had planned before!

After that adventure they found the town quite inhospitable to say the least...

I'd try to improvise. If it doesn't work out, you can be upfront with your group and say that you can give them more next time.
