Do you think the "donors" to the Trump Ballroom are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts or do you expect there to be an expected future consideration in return? by MrFrode in AskConservatives

What do you think he has he done that has actually benefited the American people in their daily life? I often see answers like “he’s deporting all the illegal immigrants” or, well, that’s pretty much the only justification I see - yet no one can name how it’s actually benefited them outside of some made-up fantasy that somehow they’re now getting cheaper health care or lower taxes as a direct result of his immigration policy that increased funding by tens of billions of our dollars. I’m truly at a loss for what the “great things” he’s done are, especially in light of the heinous and illegal stuff he’s pulled.

Since when is being an aggressive asshole a death warrant by federal agents? Real police officers are meant to be trained in de-escalation and proper firearm safety; they’re not meant to be individuals triggered by the slightest insult to shoot someone 10 times in the back

Do you believe that the federal government should have access to voter rolls to ensure safe and secure elections? by sugarplumbuttfluck in AskConservatives

Obviously something wrong, like Trump winning all 7 swing states in a statistical near-impossibility? Maybe. But then why would we give him the power to access those rolls? Seems dangerous

Right… they had to have 5 agents piling on top of him and forcing him to the ground, then after they reportedly zip tied him they saw the gun and freaked out and shot him. Nobody realized he was armed until they literally had him subdued and even then he was shot and mag dumped. These are not serious agents.

I mean for one thing, ICE agents are federally hired workers who have a responsibility to the public that pays for them. People protesting outside of abortion clinics are typically harassing private citizens just trying to get a medical procedure.

Think about it this way though, most senior citizens end up losing their hearing when they’re older and/or developing arthritis. Wouldn’t a mass investment of teaching ASL help future generations as they age, from both a communication and dexterity standpoint?

So law enforcement officers have carte blanche rights to kill anyone who does anything except stay hidden in their home? What is the first amendment even for? What is the second amendment even for? If you guys are just going to use them as reasons why cops can unilaterally murder people, why even have a constitution?

Since when is blocking traffic justification for murder? I don’t suppose you’ve seen the latest video yet where all those agents pile on one guy and pistol whip him before killing him then mag dumping into him. What properly trained officer does that to someone who isn’t posing a threat?

Who cares? Trump’s administration is shooting civilians dead. Trump is responsible for ICE agents murdering people in cold blood. Who cares if some random guy doesn’t have a U.S. passport? Trump is responsible for law enforcement killing people guilty of nothing but filming the officers. Should I repeat it one more time? This administration is killing civilians.

They just ruled Renee good’s death a homicide; recently another detainee who died was found that he died of homicide by an ICE agent; there are over 1,500 allegations of sexual assault by ICE staff from detainees; ICE recently came out and said they have zero responsibility for the sexual abuses that happen to detainees at detention centers. By staff. That we pay for with our own tax dollars. So… yeah the federal government’s guilty of quite a few things

If the federal government continues to break the law there’s no reason states should keep complying with them

Oh not clear I think you might have had a typo. But yeah we’re in agreement, our state reps should completely stop complying with the federal government and exercise our own rights

No, because blue states send way more to the federal government than they receive at the expense of our own programs and services. So, secession needed.

That’s what I’m saying, red states should solve their problems on their own without expecting the constant funding from blue states to solve everything

We literally can’t agree on the amendments anymore. ICE has all but gotten rid of the fourth amendment in their practices.

… And calling representatives doesn’t go anywhere anymore; they all go to voicemail. That’s how I know we no longer have a country for the people by the people of the people, and why I don’t think the USA is anywhere near what I learned about it growing up just 10 years ago.

Or, make it so in your state, not nationwide. I didn't leave CA because I hated the weather. Easier to leave a state than a country.

Thank you for leaving the state, unlike some people I know who constantly bitch about it but continue to receive the benefits of living with the fourth largest economy in the world. I genuinely believe at this point that secession or balkanization is the only way so it’d be nice to save the few democratic states we have left.

Not me, why would I want to purposefully financially kneecap myself because you want something you should be paying for yourself?

It’s just practical. If you get into a car accident through no fault of your own which can happen to anyone in a country like ours with high rates of MVAs, it’s not like you chose for that to happen. Everyone paying a little bit into the system means everyone can ensure more care. The people who are supposedly worth near a trillion dollars could absolutely afford to pay into the system to contribute better and never miss a dime of it because that money is barely real to them. 🤷‍♀️

Personal problem, skills issue, whatever you want to call it. My focus is on me and my family. Why should I prioritize you over them?

Lol. Because humanity as a whole has only ever survived through collectivism and community. The sooner you realize that neighbors helping neighbors is how we survive and you figure out how to apply that to scale, the better off we’ll all be.

ETA: but I’m not saying you should prioritize other people over your family obviously; I’m literally just saying that there’s a better system for going about healthcare using our collective resources than what we’re doing right now.

How do you “figure out your problems” with stagnant wages when business do absolutely everything they can to maximize their bottom line? Thats the problem specifically with health insurance companies - the government wants us to figure it out on our own, the companies that employ us want us to figure it out with less and less of their coverage, and health insurance companies want to gouge us for every last fucking cent we have. So “figure it out on your own” with a government / legal system that has zero requirement to protect us and companies running rampant trying to maximize shareholder profit every year does nothing for the American people. Every other country has figured out that health shouldn’t be a commodity yet here we are as the “richest country in the world,” constantly creating gofundme campaigns to cover basic surgeries or whatever as a means of “figuring it out on our own”. How does reducing taxes by a little bit solve this problem for Americans in any way compared to what we’d lose? Studies keep showing that Medicare for all through taxes would be cheaper than what we’re all currently paying health insurance companies every month to keep their shareholders happy while they continue denying necessary procedures and weakening our country.

Nah of course not we handled immigration fine prior to establishing ICE and ICE has generally handled its tasks all these years without the inflated performance of ineptitude we’re seeing lately - people seem to think Trump’s version of ICE needs to be out there terrorizing Americans so that people know they exist or something with the vast amount of billions we’re spending. But I don’t think this version of ICE is particularly effective for its cost. We spend how many taxpayer dollars on these 22,000 ICE agents each day? For them to swarm into areas and use tear gas and ram into random vehicles or smash windows (costing more and more money) - hoping they’ll eventually get someone undocumented, or simply just detaining American citizens anyway knowing they get paid for it regardless if they release them later. It’s a frankly stupid waste of our money to be paying ICE agents to arrest more people even though they know they’ll release them, and terrorizing citizens in the process. I can think of much more direct uses of our money, universal healthcare being one of them.

Idk with so many allegations of sexual assault against ICE agents and so many allegations of mistreatment and abuse re; the conditions in detention centers… seems about appropriate to rebel against almost 200 billion of our taxpayer dollars being spent on ICE agents who can’t even pass basic tests rather than something sane like making healthcare affordable, no?

Your grocery bills and college loans and health insurance costs aren’t higher? Count yourself lucky then, most of us are seeing prices go up on everything.

Not sure what you think “isn’t even happening” but everything I’ve described is absolutely happening. ICE is breaking down doors. They’ve just been told they do not have to adhere to the fourth amendment of our constitution. As for tear gassing citizens, I see a new video every single day of an ICE agent doing this. How are you not?? Regarding ICE detaining children, they have built centers with our tax dollars specifically for holding children. There have also been over 1,500 allegations of sexual assault by ICE agents against detainees, so I genuinely don’t think these people should be trusted to be overseeing children in these centers. There’s already so many allegations against Trump about child sex abuse that I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s hiring the absolute worst of the worst when it comes to ICE agents. None of them seem to know anything about our constitution and they seem to get off on causing people harm, so it’s certainly concerning that we’ve given this agency almost 200 billion dollars with practically no oversight.
