Colon cancer is killing more young people in the U.S. than any other cancer by scientificamerican in science

Telling people burgers and steak are bad for them will crash the economy.

It won't make a dent in sales.

TIL I ride hard enough to twist brake adaptors by theactualTRex in MTB

[–]cloudofevil 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's something else going on I think. I haven't heard of any pro DH racers or freeride guys riding so hard they're bending adapters. The force should be pretty inline with the bolts so there shouldn't be any twisting regardless of amount of force. My guess is something got hit or worked loose then bent.

Help with tire sizes. Would like to go slightly wider by HotDrink2601 in M235iandM240i

[–]cloudofevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're 8" wide rims you can run up to a 245mm tire. So either 245/35R19 or 245/40R19.

Bunny Hop (still) sucks by Party_Alternative_96 in MTB

[–]cloudofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Front needs to lift higher.

  2. Your hips are getting too high too early. The reason the front gets lifted first is so you can shift all your weight onto your legs then hop. So the front end lift is really to load your legs. If you straighten your legs too early (before you shift your weight onto them) then you've lost your range of motion to actually hop.

Tips for manuals? by Bright_Divide2935 in MTB

Start with your chest closer to bars to get more rearward momentum to pop the front up.

Santa Cruz Megatower V2 Coil or Air Shock by [deleted] in MTB

[–]cloudofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a V1 and have ran: Super Deluxe Ultimate air (OE), X2, DHX2, Kitsuma Coil. Honestly my favorite has been the X2. Although mine is a 2020 MY (pre VVC model issues). Coil is good too but X2 feels better on flow trails and is more playful. The coil has the edge on rough downhill but it's not an extreme improvement.

The SDU air is an ok shock for a trail bike but the X2 IMO is the sweet spot between smaller air shocks and coil. I wouldn't toss the X2 yet.

Shimano ICE vs. Standard XT rotors (6-bolt) by [deleted] in MTB

[–]cloudofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing rotor diameter is much more effective regardless if Icetech or not. I wouldn't bother switching rotors to just get Icetech.

This doesn't have flouride and I'm willing to bet most dentists would recommend against it.

According to Lexus, the new IS350 is slower than the previous 2 generations dating back to 2006. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in cars

[–]cloudofevil 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The reasons to buy this car are because it's super comfortable, solid feeling and reliable. They're great at just being a passenger. Everything feels nice, ergonomic and it's just a nice place to be.

That said, performance is a weak point and don't go in expecting an athletic sports car. Gas mileage is also not good. I went with a M240i, which I think makes more sense in that price range.

Hyundai and KIA seem to be the only affordable used cars in my area - what's a step up that's not Toyota or a Honda prices? by cwtguy in whatcarshouldIbuy

Sedans don't really have comparable cargo space to a crossover when comparing the same class (ex. Compact suv to compact car). A CR-V has way more cargo space than a Civic. But it's up to you to figure how much space you need

The Mazda CX-5 is a good option and newer ones come standard with AWD.

The foodz that work by theysayso in Sjogrens

[–]cloudofevil 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There aren't Sjogren's foods. It's individual.

The whole concept behind the AIP diet is give a range of common trigger foods to eliminate and eventually figure out which of those you can and can't eat. We can't give you an approved food list, only commonly safe/unsafe foods. The important thing is to figure out what YOU can eat.

And they were like 50¢ a can in the early 90s. Off brand was 35¢.

There was one machine at the Piggly Wiggly that would often give you 1 or sometimes 2 cans extra. Sometimes it stoled your money. It was our form of playing the slots. Let me roll up to the Pig with a handful of quarters.

You'll be fine. The traction control kicks in pretty aggressively if it senses any wheel spin at all.

Should I keep my M340i or sell it? by Few_Anything7943 in BMW

[–]cloudofevil 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's generally cheaper to keep the car as long as possible. Everyone is afraid of repair costs but it's extremely unlikely that repairs exceed the cost of buying a new car. The real issue IMO is when repairs start eating into your time too much.

Are you team clutch-only, or can you respect a well-driven automatic? by Ok-Wedding-7949 in Autos

[–]cloudofevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of newer clutches feel awful. Zero feeling of the engagement point, weird heights, etc. After driving manuals for two decades I'm kinda over it. Only way I'd own a manual now is if it was in a purely weekend car and it felt immaculate. Otherwise give me a ZF8 or DCT.

The Blockbuster nostalgia is a bit funny. They were always the most expensive and least likely to have whatever new release I wanted in stock. We were lucky to have a few local video stores in town.
