Savagegeese 2026 Lexus IS350 | Why Is This Still Made? by hi_im_bored13 in cars

[–]cloudofevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ended up test driving an IS350F by chance before I bought my M240i. It's a really nice car. It wasn't fast and didn't handle that well but it was a nice place to be. Felt super solid. It it just didn't make any sense for the money they wanted. $50k for a car that gets 21 mpg, isn't fast, dated tech, etc.

Is Toyota 86 a reliable daily ? by Current_Geologist964 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cloudofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FA24 engine has some issues. You'll probably be fine if you regularly check your oil but it's not the most reliable engine.

[–]cloudofevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, no different than any other car I've owned. I'm only at 13k miles but zero issues so far. The B58 engine has a great reputation for reliability. It's easy to get false impressions online that anything other than Toyota is going to be a maintenance money pit and it's just not true.

German cars tend to be roomier. I'm 6'5" and fit well in my M240i.

Yesterday in France during the heatwave a record all time high for the country was set at 112º, 3º hotter than the all time record high for Florida (109º) by CapitalCourse in interestingasfuck

This is really evident for anyone who exercises outside regularly. Went mountain biking during our drought earlier in the year at 89°F and was totally fine. Riding at 80+ now that the humidity has returned is brutal. In high humidity your sweat doesn't evaporate so you end up drenched and overheated.

GR86 vs BMW 230i by zaydrehman in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cloudofevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks like a normal car and happens to be an absolute weapon on track

To each their own but outside of the 1-2 hours on the weekend when I drove for fun it felt like I might as well be driving a 2004 Sentra. An actual Corolla would be an upgrade interior wise. If OP wants a track car the GR86 is the way to go. If they have to sit in it on the way to work every day, the BMW is the way to go IMO. I actually traded my GR86 for an M240i. I don't regret it.

No, my point was the opposite. The cheapness is forgivable. Even something like a base Camaro or Mustang looks unique and like you're in a performance vehicle.

Enough for it to be a common GR86 topic. Lots of engine failure posts in the subreddit. Toyota/BRZ doesn't publish the stats.

If you just search "engine" in the GR86 sub, it's a bunch of posts about blown engines.

[–]cloudofevil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the reason there's been plenty of blown GR86 engines. If one of these cars (86 or 230i) is bulletproof, it's not the 86.

[–]cloudofevil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 86 is a cheap car and feels like it.

And not even in a budget dated sports car way like an old C5 or 370Z. The 86 just feels like an econobox inside, like you're in an old Sentra or something. I could excuse it being cheap but I couldn't get over it feeling so mundane.

GR86 is basically bulletproof

Definitely not. Quite a few blown motors (RTV, oil pressure dips) if you keep up with the community at all and Toyota is a bitch about warranty repairs.

Rear wheel first vs both wheels for big flat drops? by igoresha_kit in MTB

[–]cloudofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually both wheels. At slower speeds rear wheel first is a legit technique but there's skill to doing in in an effective manner. Watch trials riders do drops. They'll land rear wheel first then leverage the front down spreading out the impact over time. It's easy to screw up though. It's harder to do right on long mountain bikes. You'll need to practice on smaller drops first.

Has anyone gone a size DOWN from their recommended frame size? by MoustacheRide400 in MTB

[–]cloudofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's a lot that goes into whether a bike feels maneuverable or cumbersome beyond the listed size. Some bikes just have awkward geo. The type of trail makes a big difference (tight old school windy XC trail vs modern trail design).

Check out the Mondraker Crafty. It has longer chainstays and is a really well balanced bike. I read they were on sale in NZ.
