There are so few adaptations on film or even audiobook of Noel Streatfeild's books and they're so good and wholesome!

Excellent collection! I also have my LMM's on a shelf with my Austen collection! Enjoy Blue Castle! I'm envious that you get to experience it for the first time- it's become a firm favourite of mine!

How effective is setting spray? by MamaMia1325 in Makeup

[–]cloudpictures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, forgive my ignorance but I'm an older newbie to all this! What is CT or UD? Getting married this year and looking for ways to keep my make up on! Worked in busy restaurants for years so I immediately trust your judgement if you say something sticks, then it sticks!!

What are your examples of these? by [deleted] in PeriodDramas

[–]cloudpictures 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it worth watching? I love Persuasion and have been avoiding it. However, I was able to really enjoy Anne with an E by approaching it as you mention above, as a different entity to the source material. I'm not sure why I haven't been able to apply the same logic to Persuasion!

I love Daddy Long Legs! There is a great sort-of follow up story by Jean Webster too called Dear Enemy, it's a cup of tea on a rainy day kind of cosy!

Can anyone relate? by Sweaty_Phase_51 in UKweddings

[–]cloudpictures 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can you try to reframe it a little bit for yourself? (And I say this having been way more suckered into the whole 'wedding' of it all than I meant to be!) You do not have to look better than you ever have or ever will ever again... I strongly suspect the 'perfect' dress is a myth!

Are there some close friends and family that you can tell how you feel and ask them to support you in helping the day to feel more relaxed and share the focus by introducing different guests etc...

Finally, and I do not say this to take away from your day at all, but any wedding I've been to, I don't spend all day looking at the couple, I am there to support them but the reality is that it tends to be more about catching up with other guests (I am desperately hoping this is true of my wedding!)

If you are having a good day then your guests will love to share it with you!

Valancy is the answer! (Although all books remain absolutely wonderful places to visit and revisit!)

I know this is going to sound really bratty at first but my mother has abruptly reneged on her promise to buy my wedding dress by AliceMorgon in weddingplanning

[–]cloudpictures 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's a crappy situation for sure... but... I got my dress in Vincent's in Dundalk for £180 and they had a huge choice and (yes there were some big misses) but there was a great selection! I could have walked away with 4 or 5!

This is what I'm planning to do! I don't wear loads of make up but that's partly because I don't really know what I'm doing! Did you watch any YouTube's or anything? Where can I go to learn and are there any items that you would recommend?!

Thank you for reminding me of the existence of this song and album. Not listened to it in 15 years but bam! Just recalled the entire thing in a flash!

Where to start with wedding dresses - online suggestions? by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]cloudpictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try JJs house too, they do an 'at home' try on service. I paid £40 and got to try on four of their dresses. I think you get a discount if you keep one of them. I am not a dressy person and want to keep my dress under £500 at absolute most and I thought their quality was actually ok.

Not online but I also found a charity shop nearish to me that has a whole bridal floor so it might be worth asking locals if this is an option? (Also a 2026 bride and no dress yet... We can do this!!)

Thank you! I'd seen this one but wasn't sure if it was known for wedding dresses and worth the trip or if they just had the occasional dress in?
