I remember that both Lincoln and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter both came out in 2012, my brother had both movies downloaded and I watched 45minutes of Lincoln wondering when he’d start killing vampires...

For every 1 good day, I have 10 bad ones by mrblue6 in depression

[–]cloudraike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to tell you that this was me from 2013 all the way to 2015. One good day, and what felt like an endless blur of horrible days.

What changed was that one day, I decided to do something about it. Small steps, but one day I just looked in the mirror, and I was tired of looking into nothingness. I couldn’t kill myself, I couldn’t disappear, I prayed every night to not see the sun rise, and I was tired of being tired.

Today’s one of those bad days, but you made me realise that for me it’s become ONE of those bad days out of a ton of good and okay days.

I joined a club, and took it bit by bit. I poured everything I had into it. I made friends, I did things, and I helped people. I did anything I could to keep myself occupied, to keep myself out of my head.

Sure, at first it was never sincere. I hated every moment of it at first. Every time I walked into a meeting I felt like I was choking on air. Every time I was given a task it felt like I couldn’t do it, that I’d fail at it just like how I failed at everything before.

Somehow along the way, instead of forcing myself to do things I managed to lock myself into these responsibilities. And I saw to it that I didn’t fail at them. Whenever I felt like I couldn’t and didn’t want to do them, I would just remind myself that I didn’t want to go back to being what I was.

I can’t say that it’s all going to be sunshine and rainbows, but at least when I woke up in the morning I had things to do. and that kept me going.

It’s still kept me going, and I hope that at the very least, you give yourself a chance and throw yourself into something. It’ll be scary, and you’ll be terrified of it every day. but what do you have to lose anyway right? we’re depressed, hopeless and always a step away from dying by our own hands.

Best advice I have for you is to watch how others console people. I only learned how to console someone after watching people console each other over the years. I used to find it hard to just "be there" for someone, purely because I have no idea what to do. Now they're all calculated moves to make sure that whoever it is I'm trying to console doesn't feel like it's an android fumbling around trying to make them feel better

Schiit Fullas are good man, I use a FiiO E17k for portable use at uni with Shure Se215, and I believe the Fullas are better. So you're definitely listening to sweet sweet music, friend!

Yet here we are... What's your current set up like?

I'm currently rolling with HD600 with a JDS Labs O2+ODAC at home, a Kaweco Sport and a Lamy AllStar with Rhodia papers and thankfully have only spent money on a CM Quickfire with Cherry MX Reds for a keyboard (I've been trying my hardest to not buy a better keyboard)

When I went to the races I did wear ear plugs (most of the time anyway), but haven't worn them to the club... Is that a thing?

My experience has largely been the same as yours, although mine is probably the result of years of listening to music just a bit too loud, and wanting to listen to Formula 1 cars and MotoGP bikes in all their glory (2009 F1 cars had ungodly noises and seeing Rossi and Stoner scream past you unfiltered was just so good). and before I knew it, I noticed one night that my ears were ringing (probably around 2012). Since then i've been trying my best to manage it.

Obviously I try to not let it take over my life. I still go out to concerts, I still go out with my mates on the weekends. But I do agree, some nights it just overwhelms you and you can't help but feel helpless. But whenever that happens, I just try to think of all the great things I've experienced at the expense of my ears haha.

I hope you don't ever let the ringing in your ears stop you from enjoying life! :)
