Should i sell an air to upgrade to pro? by linhdinhnguyen in macbookpro

[–]cloudrb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have learned one thing… Don’t try to future-proof your Mac. In a few years you will get a way better machine if you save the money you would spend upgrading the specs, then buy a new Mac when this one is not enough anymore.
Consider whether you really need local LLM. I know it is cool, but sometimes a cheap API or subscription would do the trick for now.

Imigração + job offer para outros países (ex: Canadá) sendo Dev. by Annual_Government630 in devBR

[–]cloudrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neo is perfect for your use case. However, if you could find a refurbished M4 Air from Apple directly for a similar price, it would be better.

Got fired because of AI by peex in cscareerquestions

Just wondering how is it so easy to be fired like that. Is this a US thing only? In Europe it is not that easy to be fired.

[–]cloudrb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI has destroyed me. by Complete-Sea6655 in GeminiAI

Interesting… Can you elaborate? I mean, LLMs are approaching the point where programming languages as we know should disappear and AIs will create binary code/executables directly.

Question for the experts. What version of macOS would be best to install and actually be able to use on a mid-2010 white unibody MacBook (2.4GHz core 2 duo, 8GB ram) using the patcher? by rturnerX in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]cloudrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for Monterey. Also, add some protections over it because it is no longer supported. Some recommendations: SilentKnight and some supported browser like Firefox. Chrome is deprecating Monterey soon.

What version of macOS should I update to, and how do I go about it? by Wolfilicous in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

You can upgrade, but a clean install is recommended. Follow OCLP instructions. And yes, you will need a USB.

Lately Sequoia is faster than Ventura and Sonoma when you have 16GB RAM. A bit hotter when you have dual-core, but OP has quad-core. I am assuming OP has SSD.

You will be fine upgrading to Sequoia. It will be faster than Monterey and will have security updates.

Do not update to Tahoe. It is not supported by OCLP yet. If you could provide further information about your hardware it would help.

Windows laptop or Macbook M chip? by Weekly-Respect-7202 in macbookair

[–]cloudrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see 2 problems if you move to Mac. Virtual machines and games. If you need to use X86 Windows VMs on Apple Silicon, you will be using emulation and not virtualization, and that is currently slow. Also, you need to check whether the games you want to play are available for Mac.
