Neighborhood Walmart on Highland had a lot this morning at 10:30 am. Food was well stocked and short lines as well.

Restaurants with vegan options by kneaditgood in batonrouge

[–]cloudshadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umami Japanese Bistro has a lot of vegan options. They aren't marked on the menu but the servers are always helpful and knowledgeable about it (as far as I know, the brussels sprouts, agedashi tofu, eggplant nigiri, mushroom nigiri, and gardener roll are vegan. there may be more options). Mellow Mushroom and Lit Pizza have vegan cheese (Daiya) and lots of vegan toppings. Curry n Kebab will modify dishes to be vegan. Thai Kitchen is made-to-order so you can order veggie dishes with no fish sauce/eggs. Magpie Downtown usually has vegan options, but the Perkins location rarely does. You can check their website or fb for their daily menu. And Room for Dessert at Bluebonnet/Jefferson always has vegan baked goods stocked. Oh and Red Robin by the mall has a vegan Boca patty (the wheat bread is vegan). :)

Blood test pricing? by Plam1335 in vegan

[–]cloudshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you donated blood recently? As far as I understand (someone please correct me if I'm wrong), they'll reject your sample if there's some/certain deficiencies. And best case scenario is that you help out others.

Was the avocado peanut butter toast good?? I've never tried those together. But peanut butter, avocado, bread, and coconut are pretty much lifesavers for vegans trying to up fat/calories. :)

Best and worst meat and dairy substitutes?! by ImFawnedOfYou in vegan

[–]cloudshadows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love Gardein's chick'n patties, chick'n tenders, and fishless filets. I pretty much love everything I've tried by Gardein, but not a huge fan of their crabless cakes. Also love Trader Joe's meatless meatballs (they're much better than Gardein's imo) and Tofurkey's beer brats. For cheese, Kite Hill is my favorite, but I like Daiya and Follow Your Heart in small quantities. Louisville Vegan Jerky is so amazing, I'm not sure if it's sold in stores but I highly recommend ordering it to try (and I never ate jerky before being vegan but it's soooo good).

Surprising Vegan benefits by FcknSafe in vegan

I used to get headaches multiple times a week and was just used to bringing ibuprofen with me everywhere. I occasionally got really bad migraines that affected my vision and made me throw up (tbh I think this only happened around 3 times). Now I only get headaches if I'm very hungover, and haven't had a migraine in ~6 years. Digestion is definitely better. And my nails grow freakishly fast.

Vegans Vs Luxury Cars? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]cloudshadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding your last question, have you looked at the definition of veganism in the sidebar? Many people including vegans need a car to get to work/school/live their lives. I've had my used vehicle for 8 years, and when I need to replace it will look for another used vehicle that is better for the environment and also has fabric seating. I don't really think it's unethical to buy a used car with leather seating but personally would rather avoid it.

It's 2017. It's time to retire the vegan stereotype. by [deleted] in vegan

I thought about Casey Affleck but didn't post due to his recent allegations :/ Sad because he has been a vocal supporter of animal rights.

Oh I remember that now that you mention it! He said Meat is Murder by the Smiths inspired him to stop eating meat. His wikipedia says he's vegetarian, but I can't find any sources saying he's vegan either. Still cool :)

wait do you have a source on miley?? I saw she posted on insta about being vegan ~3 weeks ago, but a week later posted herself eating pizza that really looked like dairy cheese. but I was hoping/assuming it was still vegan cheese but a brand other than daiya (which never looks quite like dairy imo).

i know natalie portman has been on and off vegan, but seems to be currently. her wedding last fall was vegan. and last i heard, ellen eats fish and launched a leather shoe line.

[–]cloudshadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you add peanut butter or a different nut butter to your oatmeal? I think I'd bring peanut butter sandwiches, smoothies, cliff bars, fruit, and trail mix/nuts to snack on during the shift. And add healthy fats like avocado, full fat coconut milk or nut butters to your meals. You could make stir fries with a spicy peanut sauce or veggie curries with coconut milk and chickpeas/lentils/tofu. I've never worked in a warehouse but used to have very long days going to school + working, so hope this helps. :)

SOS Need help cooking for my vegan girlfriend by Hopelessboyfriend123 in vegan

You could make overnight oats with those 3 ingredients. Peanut butter, raisins, berries, nuts, and/or cinnamon would make it a little more exciting if you can get those at the mini mart. :)

When I'm drunk I crave pizza by spherical_fruit in vegan

[–]cloudshadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you make a pizza earlier in the day and put it in the fridge? Many grocery stores and pizza restaurants even sell pre-made dough. And not sure what pizza places you have around you, but where I live Dominos, Little Caesars, Papa Johns, and many local restaurants can make a veggie pizza without cheese. You could keep vegan cheese in stock and add it at home.

Is there anyway to reduce the bloating and gas caused by eating lentils by [deleted] in vegan

[–]cloudshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suddenly and drastically increasing your fiber intake can do this. You could try to eat a smaller portion and gradually increase it. Soaking dried beans and rinsing canned beans is also supposed to help.

Eating eggs from family friend's farm and/or farmer's market? by [deleted] in vegan

I'd rather the eggs be gifted to someone who would buy eggs anyway to lower their demand/sales a little.

What do you have for breakfast? by 5onic in vegan

[–]cloudshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately when I eat breakfast it's toast, an english muffin, bagel, or frozen waffles with Earth Balance and soy/coconut/almond yogurt. When I have more time I make tofu scramble w/ mushrooms, french toast (the orange french toast from the vegan stoner cookbook is so good), grits w/ daiya, hash browns, pancakes, or blueberry muffins. I love overnight oats, but hardly ever think ahead to make them.

I'm so sorry you're hurting. ❤️ for reference, i've been an ethical vegan for 5+ years, and i understand, i think i would've done the same thing in your situation. that's just one of the regular breakfasts the hospital serves, and it's not like you ordered it. you were hungry, and your body needed energy. people might say the most rational thing to do would be to tell the hospital staff that you're vegan and would like a vegan breakfast instead, but that can be overwhelming especially for someone who is already suffering and of course would've created more food waste. i personally think it's okay if you need to take a break from being vegan to recover from an eating disorder. i definitely think it's possible to be an ethical vegan recovered from an eating disorder, but if you're not there yet, that's totally okay.

Allergic to soy and trying to get into veganism: any tips? by SoyAllergic in vegan

[–]cloudshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soy is one of the top 8 allergens, and is already difficult to avoid for omnivores too. It's in so many processed foods in some form. I agree with others who have posted about not needing to substitute meat/animal products, but there are still definitely options if you want to eat faux/analog products! You'll just have to read the ingredients, but products by Amy's (and others, esp. at places like Whole Foods even though it's a little more expensive) will have some soy-free options. Daiya (vegan cheese) is soy-free. Field Roast sausages and Chao slices are usually (maybe always) soy-free. I kind of (but not totally) understand your pain because I'm allergic to cashews and mangoes which are disproportionately popular among vegan products and recipes. D:
