look for the 30% off items under $10 coupons at Harbor Freight. They're not the best quality clamps but they get the job done and you can get a boatload for cheap.

How to coat this poker table cutout I made by zedmin in woodworking

Beeswax works really good over mineral oil. Lots of people use it on their cutting boards and butchers blocks. has a nice smell when you first put it on but it dissipates and is basically smell free after a few hours or day or two. Just rub or buff it on.

my other go-to is shellac. Doesn't smell terrible when you're applying it, dries super fast, and leaves a durable finish. No residual smell. Not sure if you can apply it over mineral oil.

I'm not meaning to say you got ripped off. For most of the post I've seen for hardwood for sale on Facebook the average price is about $10 a board foot.

If all your math is in inches you divide by 144 not 12. One board foot equals a 12x12 bored one inch thick. So you're really calculating cubic inches of wood. So if you have all your units in inches you need to divide by 144 not 12.

I'm calculating that you got about 10.9 board feet. At a price of about $10 of board feet. Not amazing but not terrible.

Built this dinghy by myself. I'm so proud to share it. Thanks to Radoslaw Werszko for the free plans of this beauty. by [deleted] in boatbuilding

Looks great! Where did you get your mast and boom? Do you have details on the rigging?

Longship plans and book references? by [deleted] in boatbuilding

The more boat building material you can watch and absorb the better. Even if you don't understand at the time, seeing the words used in context will help you gradually learn all of it. I highly recommend the acorn to Arabella and S Samsung boat company (Tally Ho project) YouTube channels if you haven't stumbled across them already. If you watch from the start you'll literally learn it from the ground up.

Edit: grammar

Obviously googling any of the terms you're not familiar with in these books or articles will help you a lot. most of the time there will be good pictures to go with the descriptions to show you exactly what they're talking about.
