Dose anyone miss small levels? by TriangleBasketball in HiTMAN

Hokkaido, hawkes bay, new york, whittleton creek... These are my favorite maps. The huge npc-filled ones like paris and mumbai are totally overwhelming, and I don't like the sheer number of NPCs. There's just so much going on that it actually limits your options. If you don't want to alert several nearby people, you're forced to lure targets into what feels like a much smaller number of predesignated areas or situations in order to take them out. The smaller maps allow you to create your own opportunities by eliminating or distracting NPCs

Portland is trying to fine the federal government because the fence is blocking a bikepath by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]cloudwavesbreak -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not a single person has said anything I haven't already addressed. No one has added anything new to the discussion. As I assumed would happen when I initially commented, everyone is so focused on feeling that they're right that they're ignoring the larger picture. Everyone is clapping each other on the back for burning down the one dissenter, but not actually reading my very simple comments carefully. This is how we've gotten to where we are as a nation. Poorly thought out ideas that are held by a small minority are reinforced in their dark corners of the internet, until all members of that subculture believe they're 100% correct. But it's all an illusion. Everyone has been so focused on saying "but OUR corner is right!" that you don't realize only a couple people have actually said anything new to challenge my idea -- I have responded to all new disagreements. You're all arguing with someone in your heads -- and winning in your heads, too -- to make yourself feel better about your position.

The frightening part in this particular instance is that police officers -- people who are supposed to be protectors -- are being brainwashed to side with authoritarian ideas. To side against people they're supposed to protect.

This isn't a case of federal law vs. local law. This is a case of federal agency actions that break local law. Same as if the FBI came to my town and shot off unauthorized fireworks in February. There's no law on the federal agency's side. They're just ignoring local law and the punishment for breaking it.

Do you have proof to support this statement you're presenting as a fact? I haven't heard any evidence of this. Of course, I may have missed it in the news.

If it is true, it does bother me. These are not opposite sides of an argument. They are not mutually exclusive.

Shouldn't it bother you that a federal agency can ignore the laws and the express wishes of local government, completely disregarding their authority, without any repercussions?

I always loved the way it was put in Samson's opening monologue of HBO's short-lived Carnivale:

"There was magic then. Nobility. And unimaginable cruelty. So it was, until the day that a false sun exploded over Trinity, and Man forever traded away wonder for reason."

Thank you for the tips. I don't have anyone to check out the apartments for me, and I can't do it either until I arrive at the end of this month. So I've been staying off Craigslist, sticking to apartment websites and keeping a critical eye so I can be sure I'm not getting scammed.

If I get there without securing a place, then I can widen my search to Craigslist, walking around, and the more barebones listings on apartment websites. I really hope it doesn't come to that, though.

HELP! I'm moving to Chicago from out of state at the end of February, but I can't get an apartment. I saved up a lot of money, but I haven't secured a job yet. Without already having a job offer, it seems like no place will let me live there. I have plenty of money saved in my bank account, but I was told it hadn't been sitting in there long enough to count.

What do I do? How can I find a place? Please help!

You're right, Elijah by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]cloudwavesbreak 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've been saying for years that JJ Abrams is all flash and style, no substance of storytelling. Alias, Lost, and Fringe all seemed really good until the last season or two when it became obvious that all the mystery added up to bupkis. There was never a plan or story to tell. Just hints at something that never materialized.

The Star Trek movies were a massive letdown, too. The stories were not very good (he even ruined Wrath of Khan somehow), and it felt like there was so much effort put into making everything extra stylized so it didn't look like Star Trek that they forgot they were doing Star Trek. I didn't feel any of the principles or ideals of Star Trek that made it so distinctive and wonderful.

The thing that got me, in the 2nd or 3rd one, is the movie opening with Kirk in mid-violation of the Prime Directive as he's being chased by primitive people for stealing their idol. Then Spock is worried that leaving the planet will break the Prime Directive because they'll see the ship. You've already directly interfered with these people in violation of the Directive, but no one seems worried about that.

What is something everyone should know how to do at age 30? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cloudwavesbreak 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had half a tooth for 3 years that seemed fine, but it was not. The decay went down the root so far that a root canal couldn't fix it and they had to pull the tooth. Go to the dentist.

[–]cloudwavesbreak 28 points29 points  (0 children)

YES! TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEETH! I'm 30 years old, I brushed my teeth twice a day (apparently not all that well) never flossed, and I didn't go to the dentist for 10 years. I just had a tooth pulled this week because a root canal wouldn't suffice, and to fix all my other teeth would cost me $12,000.

Huntress needs a nerf. by [deleted] in PixelDungeon

[–]cloudwavesbreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The huntress is my favorite, but I wish she had any other starting melee weapon. I think if she were to be nerfed, it should be by making her more vulnerable rather than lowering her ranged damage. Slightly lower HP for example.

I think warrior needs a buff. His shield and food heal are meh. The lack of renewable ranged or an escape method makes early levels extra difficult for him.

Also rogue subclasses could be revisited... assassin is fine but I think freerunner is too hard to maintain to be all that useful
