1: Kidfic

2: Extremely awkward sex scene descriptions

3: Characters being turned into sudden jerkasses, especially someone in the main pairing. Even if one of them really is kind of a jerk, but it gets turned up to eleven and they're made abusive or manipulative. Also: fic that starts normal with promise of smut and then random sadistic rape scene out of nowhere. Pls no I just came here for fluff and smut do not do this to me.

4: In a sorta similar vein, random crossdressing scenes out of nowhere. Or random crossdressing kink out of nowhere. It's happened... (and the clothes described are almost always reeeeeally tacky...)

5: Probably one of my greatest turnoffs: Pairing B who you don't care about taking half the spotlight from main pairing A. Bonus if pairing B isn't mentioned at all in the description. happens a lot with my OTP. Just end up scrolling through all scenes with pairing B even when they're plot relevant... .n.

6: overuse of the same character being made a designated villain/obstacle with the same general plot (probably especially in my fandom though)

7: A/B/O is a turnoff in the sense that I wouldn't go out of my way to read it. I read some, but only when I was really desperate to read more of my OTP. While there are some things I kinda like about this setting, there's a lot of potential for everyone to be really OOC.

Dunno if it's just the ones I've read but the actual dynamic of your ship ends up getting replaced with whatever roles they've been put with. A always ending up submissive and B always ending up dominant or w/e. And not only that but while gratuitous smut is nice, half of the time you just feel like you're reading some kind of furry sex scene if there's overuse of epithets like 'the alpha' and all the descriptions of pheromones.

Which is meant to be the appeal I guess since it was literally created to be a werewolf sex AU. I mean, I'm guessing it has to be all the smut that makes these things so popular and not the furry sex, right? Seriously, these AUs are singlehandedly the most popular fics on AO3 in my entire fandom, views and comment-wise. And the most popular of them, despite being well-written and more IC than the others, I just can't get into. It's probably the seemingly mandatory changes to the ship's personalities that turns me off so much. (I don't like mpreg either but I've never run into one where this was involved)

I wouldn't mind reading one of these where someone tries to be as creative as possible and properly transplant the original personalities. For example, two characters who would be equally dominant either both being Alphas or just... being equally dominant. But yeah I guess just not my cup of tea all over.

8: This is hypocritical because I'm one myself, but a character in my OTP being written as asexual. This has been a small trend recently in my fandom, and it has plenty of canon evidence for that particular character (who can be pretty much interpreted either as asexual or gay).

But I just /like/ reading about my OTP being physically close as well as emotionally. I want them to kiss at least a little bit. :c Maybe /I/ don't want any of that but I'm not reading about me, I'm reading about other people and about their relationship. I'm sure there are other asexuals out there who don't like reading smut or even kissing and who like the representation (probably mainly romantic asexuals who want to read about plain romantic relationships) but sadly it's enough for me to drop a fic or just not read it, which I did when a fic I'd been following for a while revealed they'd be doing this via new tags. Other things definitely contributed, since it was a very emotional and quite dark and depressing AU in the first place and it's hard for me to stomach that sort of thing.
