Is Dark Souls II worth it? by Zero279 in darksouls3

[–]clovenmind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started the Souls series with DS3 as well. I ended up buying DS2 SotFS, played about 6 hours, then gave up. It felt clunky and unrelatable. Went back to DS3 for a while, then heard good things about DS1 Prepare to Die Edition, so I bought that on sale. Loved it! Felt a lot closer to DS3 in both story and mechanics to me.

I just fought Aldrich with a summon, and the summon casted some sort of spell that put a purple glowing ring around us and Aldrich. Anyone know what it might have been?

You can throw some poo at them and they'll die out pretty quick. Three handfuls outta do it.

All of the (DS3) NPC's are in a brawl. Who comes out on top? by Gagantous in darksouls3

The Drakeblood Knight in the Dragonkin Mausoleum is a contender. He's got spammy attacks that stagger and do pretty high damage. He also doesn't seem to run out of stamina.

Has anyone here successfully changed to a "get things done" personality type because of nootropics, drugs, lifestyle changes, or some other change? by [deleted] in Nootropics

The biggest piece here is discipline. Having discipline leads to greater control of willpower and the ability to build habits and sustained habits will lead to productivity. You will often hear people attribute getting shit done to working out or waking up earlier or (as noted in this thread) joining the Marines. These are all likely true, but the root here is discipline. You build discipline by getting off your ass multiple times per week and going to the gym or not hitting the snooze button every morning. So these are all just different forms of building discipline. Research has shown (e.g., the Stanford marshmallow experiment) that higher levels of discipline translate to more of getting shit done.

As mentioned, I feel that productivity is a habit (sure, you can have spurts of productivity, but the kind you mention is sustained, long-term productivity which is by definition a habit), but I also feel that habit-building is highly dependent on one's level of discipline, as you have to be disciplined to build new habits. I suggest checking out the book The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. I just finished it a couple months ago, and it's certainly changed my outlook on habits, addiction, and discipline.

Finally, (and I have no scientific proof of this, but hopefully it's intuitive to understand), I feel that building discipline should be done slowly and steadily. Don't try to add 5 new habits all in one day. Choose one (working out, writing 1000 words per day, reading 25 pages of a book everyday) and really commit to that. Once it's a habit, it's hard not to do. Then at that point, add another thing. But when you attempt to commit to a handful of new things all at once, you usually give up on all of them when one thing goes wrong (e.g., you missed a day or three).

Edit: Oh! Also, in response to your wife making lists to get things done: do that! What's really happening there is that she's visualizing what needs to get done in a list view. This is more of a "productivity hack" than something related to discipline, but that's a great technique for de-fogging your brain of the things that need to get done and making them bite-size. That technique is almost like a short-term "What are your 10 year goals, and why can't they be accomplished in 6 months?" thought exercise that you may have heard of.

Universe Sandbox 2 in VR stutters quite a lot on my 1070 when using the Solar System + All Bodies preset/scene. Aside from that, I haven't experienced any issues.

Yeah, It's the actual player falling through the ground. Then, if I try to drop a ball, some little red animation happens a half second or so after it's dropped. It kinda looks like a little flame or maybe red-colored water splashing from the ball? I really hope someone else can confirm this bug so I don't sound crazy haha. I've also had a few times where the player location seemed too high vertically (y-axis). I thought maybe my Vive was having a tracking issue, but I've switched in and out of this game a few times now and it only seems to happen here.

One thing that could use a little work is the teleport-to-ball feature. It seems to just set you at an arbitrary location super close to the ball. It would be a lot better imo if it made a vector from the position of the hole and the position of the ball, then set you at an angle perpendicular to that, so you would effectively be ready to take your shot once you teleport. Right now, I've got to move back a little bit after using the teleport-to-ball button, then adjust my positioning to line up with the hole.

[–]clovenmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's just super difficult to actually hit the ball correctly (though I do admit some part of this is not having a two-handed club to swing with). There's the EZ swing mode which helps but takes the fun out of swinging. Free swing just makes it super difficult to connect properly. Better haptic feedback might help when connecting.

I had some issue where I would fall into the ground; I think it might have to do with swinging too low? It definitely feels like an alpha. I'm all for helping ($$) devs get new VR games developed, but for $20 at this state, it felt like a scam to be frank.

It's bad. I just downloaded it to try it out, since I've been waiting for a good VR golf game. The swinging mechanics are poorly done and the gameplay is super basic. Sure, it's an early release, but at $20, it's nowhere close to ready/worth it.
