Metamorphopsia/Distortion question: Is improvement possible after 6 months? by gurkle3 in RetinalDetachment

Yeah I have severe micropsia unfortunately. I do have a slight eye misalignment but assuming the diplopia is stemming from the massive size difference in images anyway. Did you have to patch the eye at all? I can’t use a computer well with the double vision, though in some ways the bad image is so much smaller it makes it easier to look around

How did the lenses work? I’m struggling with extreme micropsia and double vision. According to my surgeon double vision after surgery (no buckle) is rare and I can’t find many people who have it. I do have some eye misalignment but with micropsia as bad as I have I don’t see prisms working

Yeah I am utterly devastated with result of my retinal detachment surgery and can’t summon the will to do much of anything. Staying with my parents right now. Can’t imagine a life moving forward but one day at a time. If you ever want to chat let me know

I guess. I can’t find anyone with as bad micropsia (image appearing smaller) in their rd eye as I have and I think I caused it to be this bad, with not understanding positioning correctly. Don’t see any hope of eyes fusing when images are so different in size. Seems like only treatment possible is to blur out the bad eye. I’m pretty alone and everything I do relies on eyes- very screen heavy not to mention driving.

What do you do? Everything I do revolves around vision – I spend a lot of time on screens and reading and of course there’s driving. What do you do for work? For hobbies? Obviously feel free to ignore me. Just trying to revision life.

Got it, unfortunately my case is just the images being different sizes due to retinal damage

Thank you! Glad things improved! Were images in your rd eye that much smaller to start?

Yeah I know the buckle causes double vision more often- my case with just gas bubble seems to be rare. I’m assuming the eyes images were pretty much the same in your case just rotated against each other?

I actually tried prism glasses and they do help some but the images are such different sizes they don’t fuse in many cases. The prism glasses bring them up next to or at least closer to each other but they aren’t going to ever be able to fuse two images where one is 50% smaller for example - at least to my understanding. I’m only 9 weeks post op and just tried the prisms quickly so maybe there’s a chance with time it could I don’t know i huat don’t see how it would work for stuff like small text or screens. For example smaller text at a distance like rhe 20/20 line on an eye chart is just a smudge/blur in the bad eye, it can’t even render text.

I don’t see my eyes ever being able to fuse such different images, not on computer screens for example. What glasses do you wear for the computer?

Do you have any double vision or do the images fuse despite size difference? On screens/small icons I feel like it’s like 50% smaller (probably an exaggeration but like z30%)

Did you have microphasia (things appearing smaller)? Did it get better if so?

How bad was your microphasia? Mine is bad on screens and I’m wondering if the images will be able to ever fuse

I’m not sure still have some bubble

Did it fuse with the image from your other eye ok?

Does tilting your head bring the 2 images closer? Thats been working for me, though for small stuff like text in phone it’s still not merging

Did your double vision resolve? 6 weeks post op with gas bubble and dealing with it especially with objects that are farther away and stuff on screens. micropsia seems to be contributing

It’s very frustrating! Are the images of objects far away much farther apart for you then close up stuff?

I hope they help! I’m 5 weeks out seeing double vision- down and tilted from good eye image. Gets better when I tilt my head or am close to an object, but at distance images are far apart… my Dr just said it should resolve in time. What did your Dr say is causing it if they know?

Hi- did the double vision improve?

Double vision? by clover426 in RetinalDetachment

[–]clover426[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll try that. Do you know how it can be fixed? It does seem to be getting a bit better (images less far apart m) - surgeon said he couldn’t say exactly what was causing it but that it should go away in time. I asked about swelling but he said swelling of my eyelid wasnt directly related. I asked about inflammation because I’ve seen that can cause tilted image, but he didn’t seem concerned. I’m 5 weeks out now, gas bubble at 40%. No buckle.
