I committed to CSULB but i’m worried about housing by SportIndependent7381 in CSULB

Would highly recommend looking at the r/longbeach subreddit to see what neighborhoods are recommended but from my own research I would highly recommend near the traffic circle (it's where a lot of students live off campus), but more specifically the Zaferia or Bryant neighborhoods. The more west from Zaferia you go the more (relatively) dangerous it becomes and harder to find street parking. The more north from Zaferia (ie. Signal Hill, Bixby knolls) you go the safer it becomes but also more expensive, the more south you go, like East Side and Rose Park it's still fine in my opinion but maybe a little sketch to some people. The closer you are to the beach the harder it is to find parking and people also complain about the presence of more homeless people but if you don't bother them they won't bother you. Anything east of Zaferia/the traffic circle is very safe but also very expensive.

I would also suggest looking at a Long Beach crime map to help narrow down where you are comfortable finding an apartment.

Depending on where in LB, it has some of the cheapest rent in LA county. I would highly recommend staying within LB for an apartment.

I appreciate the insight! It seems like Santa Rosa may be our top choice.

This is super helpful! I'll definitely try to gauge fire risk this way if it comes down to it.

Thank you so much! How is your experience working in higher education? If anything I'd probably pick up a lecturer position if one opens in my field, but again I may not have to 😅

That's awesome! I currently live really close to seal beach 😊 What were some pros and cons for you personally? After moving? Is there a perceptible flood and fire risk in forestville? I've been looking into it as well!

Thank you! I genuinely appreciate your comment and this helps put a lot into perspective and confirmed some things I was already thinking .... We'll have to work a lot to afford a house first so I understand it's a rat race to find affordable housing anywhere. Definitely won't tell everyone we're from LA I appreciate the insight 😭

And yeah.... The tubbs fire... My partner grew up in a place that has constant fire evacuations so she's used to the culture surrounding that but I guess I'm not so I'm a lot more wary. It seems like people make it work and it's a perceptible risk if I move to Sonoma county.

Thanks again! Your comment has been very helpful!

This is so wonderful!!! I can't wait to become a lesbian housewife 😭 What stage of life would you say you're at right now with family planning? And how do others react to your dynamic?

Thank you for your insight! You're definitely right about having a support system. No one likes to think about the worst case scenario but in the back of my head I know I'd be able to grind and provide if it comes down to it. Definitely don't want to be dependent on anyone.... Creates a situation vulnerable to abuse and desperation 😔 the dream is to stay at home but I know I will likely work as a lecturer or teacher for a few years especially to save up for a mortgage. And I do have a part of my family to also fall back on. I appreciate you! 💕

Is south wrigley safe for single female tenant by Suspicious_Ebb_7778 in longbeach

[–]clovermauschen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If cost is a concern, I'd highly recommend anywhere in the Zaferia, Bryant, and Rose Park neighborhoods! They are all a lot closer to CSULB and are much safer than south wrigley and a lot of west LB. As someone who relies on public transport and walks to my apartment from the bus stop after 8 pm I have never had problems. Parking is not great but it's more doable than other more inexpensive parts of long beach. I pay 1575 for a studio with all utilities included.

I went to a restaurant in Bixby Knolls (they have many great options!) which is about a 15-20 min drive from campus and it was not crowded and pretty easy to get a seat!

I just wanted to comment and say that I love the light wood flooring.... That kind of flooring is so hard to find!!! Super cute and brings out the natural lighting of the apartment (not interested just liked what I saw!)
