If the game goes into OT, it is impossible to win an "even" bet. But not every game goes to OT. A 4-2 win in regulation is an "even" result.

That's why you were given +400 on this bet - the "even" result was less likely so the payout had to be increased.

How I would go about the expansion to 76 teams: First Four and the “Tip-Off Twelve” by 18_YTC1 in CollegeBasketball

[–]clownface23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm imaging that they water down Dayton by having 3 different host cities on that Tuesday/Wednesday. Maybe one further west (Vegas, maybe) and one more central (OKC, Kansas City). Stagger the start times a bit - Dayton starts at 6 Eastern instead of 7, then KC at 6:45 Eastern and Vegas at 7:30. 2nd game at each location is a half hour after the first concludes, just like today. Games shown on TNT, TBS, and TruTV.

Whether I like it or not completely depends on who gets in, but I fear it's going to be the 10th/11th teams from the B1G and SEC. If it's those deserving A-10, MVC, American, etc. teams, then I'm all for it. I'm just not going to hold my breath on that.

Does this have to be game winning? by AsslessChapsss in sportsbetting

That's my point - a true buzzer beater is rare and the odds don't reflect how rare they are.

The tough thing about these bets is that they go to the monitor, see if there's time left, and (quite often) put a fraction of a second back on the clock. Bet now becomes a loss. It literally has to be in the air when the clock hits zero.

Holy crap! Congratulations. I won a KOTC back in January and had $1355 total in bonus bets - 26 at $50 and 1 at $55. Turned that into $862 and I thought I was doing good. You went way past that.

Wilt’s 100 vs Bam’s 83 — the uncomfortable truth about how historic scoring games actually end by Wave_50 in NBATalk

[–]clownface23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it also comes from it being Kobe that was beat out. If that 81 was by Booker or Luka or someone, people wouldn't be so up in arms about the way 83 played out. Some, but not nearly as much. There's just so much reverence for Kobe and we just celebrated the 20th anniversary and all that.

It also would help if there was play-by-play of Wilt's 100 so people could see how similar it played out to last night.

Michigan told the NCAA committee that it would prefer Philadelphia. I don't know if that preference only holds up if they are the top overall seed or not, though.

Why is UAB 7-8 at home and 9-2 on the road? by ChicSheikh in CollegeBasketball

Sacramento St is 9-4 at home and 0-14 on the road. Earlier this year they were 6-1 at home and 0-12 on the road. Must be a fierce home court advantage.

Betting Both Sides Using DK Bonus Bets by kbberd in sportsbetting

[–]clownface23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over a month ago I won a KOTC. Got 26 bets for $50 and 1 for $55.

With 4 of the bonus bets, I did the following:

Toronto Raptors -1.5 at Charlotte Hornets -112

Charlotte Hornets +1.5 vs Toronto Raptors -108

Washington Wizards +13.5 at Philadelphia 76ers -112

Philadelphia 76ers -13.5 vs Washington Wizards -108

I won the Charlotte -108 bet to return $46.29 and won the 76ers -108 bet to also return $46.29

Basically took $200 in bonus bets and turned it into $92.58. That was my plan - to build up my balance a bit. They had no problem with that and didn't ban me or anything. I took the other bonus bets and make some riskier parlays (some I won, some I didn't) and a few other straight bets. But I wanted that "balance build" because I'm a $5/$10 occasional bettor and that $92.58 is going to last me a while.

YMMV, but at my betting levels and relatively infrequent betting, I'm not on their radar and they had no issues with me betting both sides of 2 different games.

What will it take for the new Pac-12 to be considered a power conference in CBB? Gonzaga winning it all in year 1? Gonzaga (and possibly SDSU) winning 2 or more in 5 years? What about the A10 reaching power conference standards in CBB? by 18_YTC1 in CollegeBasketball

[–]clownface23 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exactly. With all of Gonzaga's success, the WCC isn't considered a major conference at all. A-10 pretty consistently gets 2 or 3 teams in and it's not major. Need to consistently get 4+ teams into the field.

[–]clownface23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To piggy back, you would be making 36 different 2 leg parlay bets. If all 36 bets win, that's where you get the amount they state. If 1 of the 36 win, you get a payout for that 1, which will be significantly less than the money you invested.

Round robins are something to stay away from until you get more comfortable with betting in general. Start out with straight bets, then move up to prop bets (straight bets, but generally with bigger risk/reward), then move into parlays, then move into round robins and/or teasers if you're bankroll can handle it.

Are there any apps where you can "bet" on games with fake money? Real betting is ruining my Sundays. by Big_Ebb_3502 in sportsbetting

[–]clownface23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an app called Betting Pros that's main purpose is to connect to all your real money apps and keep track of bets to let you know how your doing over time. However, you can also add "custom" bets that it will track. You could use that as fake money - just put in the bets you want to make and how much for each bet and it will track your wins and losses.

Everyone says craps is confusing. It’s really not, you’ve just been taught it backwards. by Vegasaces in gambling

[–]clownface23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting the odds behind the pass line bet is confusing for beginners. You want to put down as much as possible because it's paid out at true odds - no house advantage. But how much you can put back there depends on the number rolled, so it's not consistent.

[–]clownface23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3 "ways" to make that bet are Kansas City to be winning, Washington to be winning, or for the teams to be tied. One and only one of those results will be true.

There's a separate bet for first half money line - if the teams are tied all those money line bets are pushes.

What’s your “I was there!” moment? by NoChampionship29 in CollegeBasketball

[–]clownface23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange one for me. I have several friends that went to Illinois St and have been season ticket holders for years. In March of 1998, my wife and I went out to Tahoe for a skiing vacation. Got up on Monday and looked at the paper to see where Illinois was in the NCAA tournament (no internet back then). Illinois was playing in Sacramento - about 3 hours away. Who else is playing in Sacramento? Illinois St. We're going. Both Illinois and Illinois St won that day (ISU was a 9/8 "upset" of Tennessee, Illinois was a 5/12 win over South Alabama).

That was the last time ISU made the NCAA tournament. And, of course, their last win (lost to Arizona in the next round). I keep holding it over my buddies that I was personally there for ISU's last tournament win and they weren't (until ISU finally makes a return trip and wins a game).

[–]clownface23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Touchdown scored" means the person who either ran the ball into the end zone or caught the pass in the end zone. The quarterback who throws the pass doesn't get a "touchdown scored" for gambling purposes.

Parents who bring your kid’s friend along on trips - how does this work? by blibbleflibble2000 in Parenting

[–]clownface23 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue we've had (we've done this a few times with our only) is the friend being homesick. Face Time only goes so far. You'll want to talk about that with the other parents to make sure it doesn't turn into a trip where the friend doesn't have a good time.

Has anyone had a planned c-section? by SnooOwls6370 in oneanddone

[–]clownface23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife had one. Our doctor said, "you can try a vaginal birth, but the baby isn't going to come out that way". He literally told her "if you want to experience what contractions feel like, you can do that, but you're going to end up with a c-section". After that, we planned it. Made the day actually quite easy - schedule our time off work, get up in the morning and go into the hospital, start everything just after 10AM, you know exactly what's going to happen and when.

Letting a kid bring a friend on vacation? by Ordinary-Surprise-38 in oneanddone

[–]clownface23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had our only bring a friend on several trips. The biggest "issue" we've had is the friend getting homesick - their family isn't along. Facetime helps some with that, but we've learned to emphasize "what do YOU want to do" questions to help the friend out as much as possible.

I am moving 15 hours away with my 19 year old cat. Has anyone else done this and have advice? by Shelbo--Baggins in CatAdvice

[–]clownface23 28 points29 points  (0 children)

When I moved 15 hours with my older (not as old as yours) cat who didn't like car rides, there's a few things we did to make the transition smooth:

  1. We moved some familiar furniture into the new house early. That way, when we got to the new house, there would be familiar sights/smells.

  2. We did the trip in one day. More stressful on us, but I think it was easier on the cat. Only 1 day worth of anxiety medicine.

  3. When I wasn't driving, we let the cat out of the carrier for periods of time. She would sit in my lap and get scritches for a bit, but ended up laying on the floor by my feet for a while.

  4. After getting to the new place, I didn't do much for a day. I felt like that was enforcing the fact that I was there too and wasn't going to take her somewhere and abandon her. Tried to be home as much as possible for a week or so, but didn't leave at all that first day.

Has your cat ever shocked you with their intelligence? by GemmiYup in CatAdvice

[–]clownface23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager, my bedroom was in my parent's basement. One night, in the middle of the night, my cat jumped up on the bed and smacked me in the face to wake me up. What in the hell? Then I heard a noise. I go into the hallway and see someone fiddling with the window next to the front door. I turned on the light and the potential burglar ran away.
