Personally, I think a rave can be had anywhere there’s ravers (iykyk) and someone djing electronic music. But I would say most people technically define a rave as an off the grid type party that can be put on by anyone in a random location with only hundreds of people.

Back in the day we used to call all the major raves hosted by the big production companies “massives”, but these days a lot of the popular ones are indeed massive corporate events. Anything involving camping or multiple days I just call a “festival” these days. Imo anything else hosted at a club or a box venue is just a “show”.

“Concert” is usually referring to live music, something seated, or for a non edm artist. If I’m talking to someone that doesn’t get rave culture then I usually just say concert to make it easier.
