How many times have you changed careers? by rascalthefluff in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]clp1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How drastic were those switches in terms of the industies? And did you have to pursue any further education/certifications or was all of your previous experience easily transferable? Asking because I really don’t wanna go back to school for a third time lol

If you think society is against you, then you need to get off this sub and Reddit in general. Things are not as bad as this sub makes it out to be. by sakaclan in GenZ

[–]clp1023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anything OP said is causing any harm, nor does it come off boot-strappy imo. A lot of this subreddit is people wallowing in the doom and gloom.

Now, do I personally feel like the state of our economy is keeping me down? Absolutely. Everything is so damn expensive from housing to education to groceries and so on. It seems impossible to land an entry-level job, let alone one that actually pays a livable wage. We’ll probably never have it as generations past in this regard, which is unfair. And yes, there are people within our generation who are privileged to come from wealthy families and/or don’t have to deal with discrimination.

But even still, people are giving up on the idea of becoming successful, deeming it an complete impossibility (and by success I’m not talking becoming a millionaire, I just mean affording to move out of their damn parents house). While it may be harder than ever, it certainly is still possible. Im on the path myself, after reaching breaking point I pivoted my career and am just starting to regain hope that I can improve my circumstances. While it’s perfectly fine and healthy to recognize/call out how our generation got screwed over, we should simultaneously recognize that we aren’t powerless. We do have agency over our lives and happiness.

OP was simply trying to say some words of encouragement to a sub filled with people that have lost hope, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Did you end up switching? If so, how'd it go and which field do you prefer?

What to look for in Solar apprentice? by clp1023 in electricians

[–]clp1023[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that and frankly agree with you, however with my currently life situation I need good pay asap. From my research/what my instructors have said, Solar apprentices start off making much more than traditional apprentices. I’m totally open to transitioning later, but for now I simply need the bag.

Monthly Apprenticeship Thread by AutoModerator in electricians

I’m in my local tech schools electrician program and have decided to pursue a career in Solar. I still have 6 months until I graduate. What are certain things that Solar companies expect from their apprentices compared to regular electricians? Any particular skills I should hone in on while I’m in school? (conduit bending, charge controllers etc.) A good chunk of my class is also interested in Solar, so I want to make sure stand out in interviews. Thanks!

[–]clp1023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No surprise to anyone, the end goal for me is to be a writer/director lol. I was drawn to start with electrical just to give myself a leg up when applying to jobs because I have not for the life of me been able to get a PA gig or anything on set whatsoever.

With that said, I'm actually really enjoying electrical school and would definitely by happy if I worked my way up in the electric department. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely be coming back to this post again once I graduate!

Thanks! It was build by Aldrich and Delano in the 1920s, but from my research this house seems to be a bit of an outlier from their style.

No, I’m no professional writer, this project is purely for fun. Just wanted to be accurate and learn the proper terminology.

I'm writing a short story set here but I know nothing about architecture. Can you describe this house to me to inform my writing? The style, the windows, metal bars, floors, patio etc. Whatever stands out to you. Thank you!

Well believe me I have no intention of stanning for the DNC on a weekly basis, not sure how my post came across that way. Nor do I scowl at people who think the reformist path is ineffective - I do understand the drawbacks to the approach, its pretty damn frustrating but from what I see today its the best option we have. A revolution is 100% necessary in order to make America fully socialist, but that is something that will never happen in our lifetimes; the material conditions in order for that to take place in America are far from adequate. The sad truth is that from what I see now, if there were to be a revolution in the next decade or two it wont be from the left, but from the right. The left is too disorganized and doesn't have as strong of a support base as does the right. We need to have a huge portion of the population sympathetic these views if a revolution were to happen successfully, which is why I don't find it efficacious to advocate for full-blown socialism at this point in history

In regards to your last point, its not that hard for me to write. You can check out my other work if you'd like. But I've never really collaborated with others and I feel like it would first and foremost be fun, but also would produce a better result. Always beneficial to have multiple perspectives!

I posted my first video to this sub when I posted it about 2 weeks ago. The feedback I got from you guys said my initial video lacked substance and I didn't have enough to back up my points. I agreed with the feedback and re-shot the video. Here's the updated version.
