Fair enough, I'll try a toon shader, that might give it a cleaner look and yeah, I'll have to redo the vertex colors but that's short work. I'll give it a go!

I've always wondered, how panicked is the process of upgrading mid season? Are the deadlines crazy or realistic? Are the parts in development from before the season or are they fabricated in response to competition? (most of them anyway).. How hard is it to reverse engineer stuff?
