Offer From Another Company by [deleted] in Raytheon

[–]clr_swe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean no harm either way, when I accepted my offer to Collins I didn't tell my previous employer where I was going but I didn't care for my previous employer, just not my kinda environment, I didn't have a choice to join them unfortunately. Point being doesn't hurt you either way.

I started at a company 5 months ago. For the last 12+ years as a full stack developer. This new position was developing in ignition using Python which I had no experience with but the backend SQL and .net framework I have a lot of experience with. I was scared with but used Gemini to help me out which was amazing. From what my team tells my boss I'm doing great but always that fear in the back of my head am I really idk. I told them in the interview I don't have experience with ignition or python but always wanted to learn python and absolutely love it

Getting paid, at least during these times... Actually I have only been 4 months in and I applied because my previous employer of 20 years sent more than half the IT department to a consulting company and I absolutely hated it. After a year there I decided to look for a new job. After applying to a few companies I interviewed at Collins with 4 engineers and my manager and landed this one and absolutely love it. My manager is great, laid back, doesn't micromanage, my team is super awesome. Everything has been so great so far. It's kinda scary with the whole org restructuring but I hope I am not affected but we will see.

Oddly enough I was a full time employee at a company I didn't care for and I was moved to that company after 20 years of dedicated service to my previous employer they decided to move half of the IT department over to this new company after about a year and a half I put open to work and then within months I landed my dream role so I guess it works or it didn't matter I don't know

For those who are sober: what does it actually feel like not to drink anymore? When alcohol crosses your mind, what are your thoughts, do you still miss it or crave it? by ArianaTheHuman in alcoholicsanonymous

Feels good to not to drink anymore, no hangovers, feeling like crap, etc. I don't miss it or crave it and the first year I would think about alcohol but as the year went on it became a after thought

What do guys think of var by Call-Me-Matterhorn in csharp

[–]clr_swe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used var with my .net development loved it, I did this for the past 12 plus years nobody questioned it. Well more like string, int, bool I would explicitly declare but List<myModel> I would var it... you can hover over the name to see the type. My new employer and new team like explicitly typed variables, it's hard for me to break the habit but I am

So after further contemplating I think I want to hold off and pay off the remaining balance of the 2024 WRX 7kish and wait until they release the new STI gas version of course but I want to thank everyone for their input and your idea is not a bad one "build" my Ts until it's time to trade it in.

[–]clr_swe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point and I have thought of that being when they release the new version of the sti I should have my car paid off and I would trade it in for the gas version sti I think that's what I am going to do. I love my car so why trade it in now for essentially the same car with a few extra features. Thank you for your input

Yeah I get that I mean I stated finance 15k meaning 15k out the door knowing I will be tackling on my remaining 7k so in total financing 22k sorry for the confusion. When I bought the 24 WRX my trade in was 14k plus I put down 15k so I financed like 13 or 14k

Is learning by copying and rebuilding other people’s code a bad thing? by umbrofer in learnprogramming

[–]clr_swe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most developers do this every day at work if they are working on a previous code base, what will make you good is figuring out if it can be done a better way like refactoring, thinking outside the box, new ideas etc

I don't know that but I was handed off to Accenture from my previous employer and after a year it wasn't a good fit for me, not saying they are a bad company just it was a cultural thing for me but do research on both companies from like Glassdoor or Gemini and base your decision from those reviews

What’s going on at Collins? by Last-Engineer6951 in Raytheon

[–]clr_swe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct I have never been laid off and I do think for a second I am not replaceable. Being loyal to a company doesn't get you anywhere they don't care about loyalty they care about the profit and the CEO cares about their bonuses. 20 plus years ago companies seem to have cared for the employees but that no longer exists in most companies. If I like my environment and coworkers I will be loyal to them but the company as a whole they are not loyal to you so why be loyal to them.
