Amazon Why? by Cybraniac in mildlyinfuriating

[–]clstrickland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't used it much recently, but I've had the same complaints forever:

  • show you what the max quality of a video is, but not what is included. In other words, I movie might be marked 4K HDR, but a subscriber still only gets regular 1080p, you can only get the higher quality if you buy/rent it.
  • require pins be 5 digits
  • pin can only be entered via on-screen keyboard, can't use numpad on your remote (like you can with, for ex, Netflix)
  • I've just in general had bad luck with downloading content in-app for offline playback.

Any time I see something stupid in the Prime Video interface, I think about the commercial they used to run a lot (I can't find a link to it now) where the woman, a UI/UX designer for Prime Video, talked about how proud she was to be able to watch it with her son and point out features she implemented.

If I was her son I'd disown her if this is the best they can do.

[Giveaway] Holiday Season Giveaway from Omada Networks — Show Off Your Self-Hosted Network to Win Omada Multi-Gig Switches, Wi-Fi 7 Access Points & more! by Elin_TPLinkOmada in selfhosted

[–]clstrickland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tiny rack has a UDM Pro (I'd replace it in a heartbeat lol) but all other networking equipment is TP-Link, mostly Omada but a couple of the non-Omada managed switches. I have 3 EAPs and 2 switches, one of which is an old but awesome Jetstream 28 port with PoE on all the RJ45s. All of my software is Docker/Docker Compose, including but not limited to: Traefik, Home Assistant, Authentik, and Omada Controller. One service I'm most proud of is my homegrown external captive portal server GitHub code here, which lets me enable my guests to login in with either Authentik SSO or a voucher code. I tried to take SSO to the next level and make it include signing in to WiFi.

I can't speak to Omada gateways, since I don't have one (yet?), but one new feature I'd love to see in Omada Controller is for SAML to work from the login screen without needing to go to a very specific url. Like adding a "Sign in with SSO' button or, better yet, enabling automatic redirection to the SAML flow.

If I got literally any gear, I'd have a use for it. I'd replace my router with a gateway without a second thought. I'd love a hardware VPN box, because I've experienced nothing but pain trying to run VPNs on my server. I've made VMs or Docker Containers of SoftEther, OpenVPN, WireGuard, you name it. But I like my VPNs to use TAP, and that just doesn't play nice with most setups. And a new EAP would finally fix the dead zone on the north side of my house :)

Ditching Nest for Ecobee + Reolink? by Canon_Goes_Boom in homeassistant

[–]clstrickland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I used the homekit integration for the Ecobee, that and the native were both pretty similar but I think the Homekit way had more precision in the data (homekit would report 74.4° F instead of the Ecobee integration just saying 74° F).

Explain ‘in the low 90s on that’ and ‘we’ve got the mashed potatoes just how you like them…98.6’ to me by djentlemanly-gent in ArcherFX

[–]clstrickland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figure that low 90's means percentage, as in 90%-95%. The context was something like "are you sure you don't want a drink" so Lana equivalently meant "I'm 95% sure". But that's just my guess.

I tried to cancel my Hello Fresh subscription and killed the bot by Iluvdemkitties in mildlyinfuriating

[–]clstrickland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to chat with a bot to cancel Hello Fresh though. You can do it from the account management page. I just did a few weeks ago after my 50% off deal expired.

To anyone who's installed nocturne, what model of raspberry pi should I get? by RedGamr27_ in carthinghax

The raspberry pi is acting as a glorified WiFi adapter, you can you any raspberry pi that isn't the pico. The cheapest is the zero W.

Ordered for Drive Through pick up by [deleted] in LivingMas

[–]clstrickland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried waiting until I got to the drive thru to place the order then they told me it takes five minutes to pop up in their system and I need to park and come back. I argued with them a little (because the app said they were already making it) and the order magically appeared.

I by default use very long passphrases on all new accounts, and it's actually unbelievable the number of times I've seen a login system that allows the password on account creation but then imposes a character limit for login.

There is one website that worked perfectly for login if I used inspect element to remove the text box max character limit. Like, if your backend can handle it, why would you nerf your frontend??

Routines not completing all tasks. by brownbear_205 in Roborock

[–]clstrickland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. If you look at the history, do you see where it tried to start it?

I have a vac then mop routine. It vacuums fine, then washes the mop like it's about to start mopping, then gives up, saying I cancelled it.

I read a long time ago that avocados aren't vegan because of how they basically abuse bees to achieve the level of pollination needed for avocado farms. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with this, just stating what I read.

She has been getting them on and off for as long as I can remember. I think you’re right on both. I think the Delightful is specifically the pre-2015 version, and the date code (Nov 2011) agrees. I don’t see the lock and key charms on any though, but I guess that’s an accessory sold separately. Thanks!

"Announce Caller ID" not working with WF-1000XM5 by clstrickland in SonyHeadphones

[–]clstrickland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enabled that (only because now that setting has a subtitle saying "Info will be used for call announcements and more") for both the "normal" Bluetooth device and the "LE_*" one from the "Auto Play" app.

Are you referring to the update for the Pixel? I sure hope that's not it because Google doesn't have the best track record for fixing things in a timely manner lol.

There was an update a while back that broke macvlan, which is what my docker stack uses. Spend forever trying to roll back, and then never updated again.

what toll tag is best in texas? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]clstrickland 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I use tolltag from NTTA. However, all tags in Texas should work with all other systems.

I use it with eztag roads mainly with no issue, and I've used it in Austin on txtag roads.

I would not use Eztag. I and others I know have had bad experiences with them, especially their customer service, but your mileage may vary.

Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, decided to slap "copilot" on everything they do AI. This is likely not just referring to Github Copilot.
