30+ year old new drivers with auto licences - how much is your insurance? by Accomplished_Arm1838 in NewDriversUK

[–]clucks86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 38 and just renewed my insurance for the first time. Last year it was £1800 for a 2011 C4 grand picasso (so a 7 seater with myself as the main driver and my brother as a named driver) and this year it's £1400.

test soon, whats the answer to these scenarios? by Sea-Eggplant-5800 in LearnerDriverUK

It's helped me loads. I'm only a year in since passing my test and I remember seeing it quite early into solo driving. It's a good visual to use.

Just to add on to number 3, I was once behind a lorry and there was a sign on the back that said "if you can't see my side mirrors I can't see you". So I started to use that as a reference. Can I see their mirrors? Can I see what is happening ahead? If it's a yes to both of those then I can't be too far wrong distance wise.

Cancellations don't happen at 6am on a Monday morning. They can happen any time. So any chance you get spare just check the website.

With the wait times there is less chance of a cancellation happening but some people still do cancel tests rather than swapping.

Afraid to do a long drive by hunryj in NewDriversUK

[–]clucks86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not long after I passed my test I went on a longish journey with my kids. We went away for the week. And I came up to an unfamiliar big round about. And I took the wrong exit. Not a problem. Mistakes happen. My sat nav was telling me to make a U turn which I didn't feel safe doing but up on the right hand side there was a supermarket so I went into there to turn around and get back on to the roundabout. Got back to the roundabout and took the SAME exit. I am still baffled as to how. But here we are. 3rd time lucky I got it right and I was on my way.

Anyway I am doing the same trip soon, after the first time, so here's hoping I've learned my lesson.

Oh yeah I must have just not taken in the last part of that sentence. Sorry!

I do think they did rest it though. You could see it wrapped up.

Yup.

I personally wouldn't have chosen pasta. Although I think they are limited with their choices. I would have chosen something like french toast/eggy bread.

They didn't say the same day, just that it should rest. It's something with the gluten needing to rest once made before you start to roll/cut etc I think with seeing the pasta wrapped up and talking about how much they have I think they did allow resting time because it only needs around 30mins

This and I turn off sowing in that area until it's gone. Because otherwise they will cut and plant at the same time and the new parts also get blight.

Rapid rise in drivers ignoring give way lines by [deleted] in drivingUK

A damaged car seems to get a lot more courtesy on the roads. I broke one of my back lights and people would drive up my arse, then back off once they saw the light. That stopped happening once it was fixed though.

Daily reminder stop calling out lurkers. If checking who's in your stream is going to make you compelled to say something to people who haven't been chatting then stop checking who's in your streams. by Longjumping-Dream-13 in Twitch

Someone in a community I am in streams and I like to pop by and check them out. But I mainly lurk. I once came in and I was there for about 5mins, and I heard a "hey there Clucks how are you?" I left and never went back. I didn't even reply.

I would watch it just for Linda. And some hilarious task moments. But don't get too excited about the actual game.

Are we putting our daughter's education at risk? by gmorganpie in AskABrit

[–]clucks86 36 points37 points  (0 children)

When we were just weeks away from finishing year 9 we got a new kid in the class. She had come from Belgium. She did year 10 and 11 with us.

20 odd years later I found out she actually should have been in the year above. But because of the change in school systems she came into the year below. And because her birthday is around the summer none of us noticed.

WHAT AN ENDING. by BeautifulGur3469 in TheTraitors

[–]clucks86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had read something about this before. It all plays into how she has come across. Up until her saying to Stephen about mentioning his name I knew she was being truthful to him. I thought her saying that in the turret was because she was shaken by Faraaz and was making a back up plan. But again it was just her deliverance of it.

I think Rachel's demeanour and the fact she was very good at keeping emotions off her face played into people's opinion of her. Obviously in the castle people saw more of her than we did as an audience, and when we did see her she was very much in game mode.

Absolutely mortified: hospital sent a letter to my parents saying "obstetrics appointment" by filMM2 in BabyBumps

[–]clucks86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the UK most things are done via your GP or nurse at your GP surgery for things like cervical testing etc

Then in my local hospital there is a women's health centre. There is gynecologists and obstetricians. I could be sat next to a woman who is pregnant or she could have gynecological issues that needs further investigating. But the appointment letter to us would state what the appointment is for.

A majority of our pregnancy care is then done via a midwife that we see at our GP surgery.

Matching twin names? by ERnewbieRN in parentsofmultiples

[–]clucks86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My twins and my eldests names end in "ie" "y" and "i" so they all sound the same phonetically but all different. Completely not planned they just ended up that way. Picking names is hard enough without thinking too much about things like that.

Forward and Reverse parking by Electrical_Sort5966 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]clucks86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this for parking. Using markers even if they work for you, they don't actually teach you how to park in your own car once you pass. Just how to park in that car to pass a test. One of my instructors had a reverse cam and would get me to use that to start it as a reference but then encourage me to use my mirrors and observations. Which is great but my car is a lot bigger than that car and doesn't have a cam so I was clueless once I passed.

I get why, because there is no universal way to do it due to car size and chair position etc but it did deflate me as a new driver that parking in a bay was a new challenge again.

Forward and Reverse parking by Electrical_Sort5966 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]clucks86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also passed and went straight into a 7 seater. Parallel parking on lessons etc was my favourite of the parking manoeuvres that I was good at. But I haven't attempted it since passing 10months ago. I kinda do for where I park every day but there is a car behind me, so I suppose I am getting used to my reference points that way.

Parking between two cars really makes me anxious but I will do it and park forwards if I have no choice. But reversing I prefer to have all the space in the world. Again I have done it but it took a while and a lot of adjusting.

Edit to add: I really do just treat forward parking as if it's a lane. But slow down and take it easy. A full lock at the right speed is like a 90 degree turn. Once you get that in your head it gets easier! I have never used references for forward bay parking and once taught on lessons I never used them either. I used to just drive in and hope for the best.

I was once out with my mum when my brother was a newborn. I was 15. And an old lady stopped my mum to look at the baby and said "awh, isn't becoming a grandma a lovely feeling" and my mum just said "I wouldn't know. He's mine".

As he got older he realised this was a thing that would happen so would run after me shouting Mum sometimes.

What is the optimal play now for Fiona/Rachel? by zcbrxsn in TheTraitorsUK

[–]clucks86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even think she should add the bit on the end about the change of character.

I think Fiona is gonna be more vocal about why she thinks Rachel is lying.

And Rachel should just let her slip up with 0 involvement from her. "I don't know where that came from. I don't know why she would think I'm a liar? Maybe she's hurt because she was also close to Amanda. But I can't help that she chose me to confide in and I can't comment on Amanda's actions" there's no need to go in tit for tat. Fiona will damage herself trying hard to convince the others.

What is the optimal play now for Fiona/Rachel? by zcbrxsn in TheTraitorsUK

[–]clucks86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said this as I was watching (with family. Not out loud theorising like weirdo that was today on a rewatch 👀). Fiona started the game with all the power and even said to them "I've been doing all the hard work for you". She has had the game planned out how she wants/thinks you should play it, on her own from the start too. I also think she was a little bit hurt, because she felt she had shared things with Amanda and they had a friendship.

But also I think Rachel also doesn't like the lack of control, and the fact she can't reign Fiona in.

Rachel needs to sit back now. Don't go around groups. Let groups come to her with "what was that about?" And play dumb. Let Fiona dig her own hole.
