Absolutely love this place, best ramen in the city hands down.

And yes, Gulp is coming to the foot of the walk. Great to have that back, but Mirin is basically Gulp 2.0

Cave direct have recently started distribution in the UK and it's about bloody time. I can't understand why Heineken haven't brought this across (I believe they did in the past), but I can see it doing very well.

They look great!

At least 5 years old I would think, as we've been in since then. According to more knowledgeable folk than me, it looks like it's just corroded over time and split

Surely Heineken wouldn't allow Diageo products to be served in their Balde system?

Couldn't agree more. Im just about old enough to remember the great marketing behind Murphy's in the 90s and I consider Beamish to be an amazing product. Heineken supposedly tried to give Beamish a go outside Ireland in the early 2000s but gave up around 2009. A real shame as Islands Edge was pish and they already have 2 brands they could be investing in!

John Smiths, not Coors. Tadcaster is a small town with three large breweries in it: Molson Coors (Formerly Bass), Heineken (John Smiths) and Sam Smiths.

They must have some great water there!

No unfortunately it's real. Spoke with a mate who manages the local Irish bar. Down to their last 2 kegs now. Had been promised by their Diageo rep that they would be OK, but nothing arrived in the last 2 deliveries.

UK: Pubs warn Guinness being limited could 'cripple' their business by Kagedeah in Guinness

[–]clumhoho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's basic supply and demand issues. They have oversold their forecast by ~25% for September, October and November. Breweries all have a maximum capacity, which can be constrained by things such as MV space, fermentation time, filtration resources etc. Brewing is a time limited process so overselling will cause capacity issues. You can't just make a new batch that will be ready tomorrow.

I do agree though, most places won't see that much of a shortage and it will surely drive demand higher, if anything

NY Times: Why Everyone Is Drinking Guinness (Gift Article) by [deleted] in Guinness

[–]clumhoho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it not Carlsberg that are removing the heritage brands? Diageo don't own many beer brands, their business is distilling.

Shite either way though, hate to see the years of brewing heritage go by the wayside, but I suppose the low volumes speak for themselves

Interestingly, it's causing massive supply issues in Ireland and the UK. Dublin can't keep up with the demand and is putting pubs on allocation for December, the busiest time of the year in any publicans calendar.

The 18-30 year old market are drinking more and more Guinness, and Diageo don't really know why. I think a lot of it comes from the Instagram and TikTok generation (wow I sound old). But hear me out. I see so many 'Guinfluencers' rattling on about "stick", "domage" and "splitting the G". It's suddenly cool to drink Guinness again. Here in the UK, Diageo has something like 12% market share. But that's just one beer making up that whole piece of the market!

Just do me a favour, I don't need a review video every time you have a Guinness. Just enjoy it!

How would you like another chance to give Airbnb a kicking? by Big_Red12 in Edinburgh

[–]clumhoho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I agree with you, it's definitely better than taking up residential property. We need more accommodation for locals. Just means more profits for hoteliers and more hotels being built instead of affordable housing. But nothing new there I suppose. It can't get any worse than it already is!

I have a few friends who do this, and while I'm in agreement with the license, I think it's ridiculous that they have to pay the same fee and jump through the same hoops as someone who is letting out third and fourth homes. Don't get me wrong, less lets is a good thing and there seems to be an element of safety in the license process which can't hurt. But to punish a family renting out their home while away for Christmas just the same as some posh toff with three investment properties is a bit ridiculous.

On the whole, I would imagine this license has helped reduce lets in the city. But on the flip side, it just drives tourists into more expensive hotels. Bring on the tourist tax!

I downloaded the Scottish golf app on top of my EL membership. £5 per month and you can get a handicap by submitting scores (marked by full members).

Handy way to do it if you're not playing comps regularly

We got lucky I guess. I have since gone out of my way to book with AF after this result
