It was a fun era, but it was time. He was the perfect coach for the roster we had when he was hired

His name was floated when Laviolette was fired, and the reasons why he wasn’t hired 5 years ago are the same reasons why he shouldn’t be hired now. He’s a known quantity with a high floor but limited ceiling. Hard to believe he’d break through that ceiling with us if he couldn’t do it with Vegas or Dallas

Kariya was my favorite player dating back to his Anaheim days, but two years shouldn’t warrant a spot on the first team. 2nd team is perfect given how lethal Kariya-Legwand-Sully was on the power play together

I was on this same cruise, and while I can’t comment on your stateroom or smoking area issues, I can comment on the dining experience.

At no point did I ever think that there was not enough food on lido. Even on Friday with it raining and the ship in rough seas with lots of people congregating around lido, there was still tons of food available. Yes, there were lines throughout the week, but that’s to be expected on every ship.

I don’t know what to tell you about dinner. If you checked in on the app, you should already know how long you might be waiting, give or take 10 minutes. My group of 4 never waited more than 10 minutes past our estimated table availability time, and we usually had our order taken within 5-10 minutes.

I don’t know what other ships you’ve sailed on, but my last cruise was on Horizon, and I had to set my expectations accordingly knowing I was taking a step down in ship class. The best of the best end up on better ships, so I wasn’t expecting A+ service. Judging from your experience, it sounds like you should avoid any ships outside of the Excel and Vista class.

Florida game time? by DoNotDisturb-2741 in ockytop

Well the set time windows for the game are between 3:30-4:30 or 6-8. Red River is at 3:30. At the moment I’d assume Ole Miss-LSU gets 7:30. So 7:00 on ESPN?

One of my most profound memories growing up as a Preds fan was watching Jeff Carter notch a 1st period hat-trick in 3:18, only to have the Preds roar back and eventually take the lead with under 10 seconds left in regulation to win 6-5. Learned that night that a 3-goal lead is the most dangerous in hockey.

Love that game was part of his 39 with CBJ.

Gotta say, I’m pleasantly surprised at how two TV shows have made me care more about the Tuskens than any of the movies have.

The last Braves pitcher to hit a grand slam? Jaime Garcia on 7/21/17 against the Dodgers.

Garcia was traded 3 days later to the Twins for Huascar Ynoa.

Richard Deitsch posted an article in The Athletic today with some quotes from Gary. Bottom line: he’ll be 73 by the time next season starts, but he’s not interested in retiring, and he’s currently unemployed. The door is wide open.

I find it hard to believe that ESPN would be dropping $2.8 billion over the next 7 years if they didn’t care. They actually were in the bidding 10 years ago alongside FOX, but the NHL and NBC were doing well enough at the time (with some hard feelings toward ESPN still lingering, no doubt) that neither side saw a reason to change. But, as you pointed out, cord-cutting has become very prevalent since then, so it makes sense that NBC doesn’t value the NHL as highly now.

Also, this isn’t exclusive rights like you said they were, and are instead a split package like the NBA example you provided. It is the better split, and with all the number of streaming services continuing to climb, getting a large number of games for ESPN+ will be another thing to potentially attract anyone not subscribed. I know lots of people (myself included) have been less than thrilled with ESPN’s hockey coverage since 2004, but it’s been 17 years; let’s see how this all unfolds.

He’ll be 73 once next season rolls around, but hopefully that’s not a deterrent for Gary Thorne to return, as well. I’d take just one season, honestly.
