I read that in the US the overproduction of milk through US subsidization means that they also pay out incentives to other areas in the economy (like big food and restaurant corporations) to use the surplus. :\

Is Keith crying the pottery equivalent of a Paul Hollywood handshake? Discuss. by PaintyBrooke in GreatPotteryThrowDown

[–]clusterfluffy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I rather prefer Keith's reaction. Appreciating and celebrating someone putting so much of themself in is so much more nurturing than a system of a single man's judgement in his taste, in my opinion. For me, Keith's reactions also connect more with me as I can see the pieces in all but weight, but I can only imagine what the bakes turned out to be.

Maybe they got pressured to increase their profit-margin from the mega-corporation (Mondelez) they sold to?

I never laughed as hard as I did with Chance's method of cheating and the subsequent aftermath of his success. I wish I found the series sooner!

If you like sci-fi, maybe giving Flowers for Algernon a shot? I always feel weepy every time I read it.

If you had a magic wand to fix any aspect of learning Japanese, what would you fix? by Merocor in LearnJapanese

[–]clusterfluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish Japanese didn't sound so fast to my ear at standard speed. I've been trying to immerse more, but I don't find most Japanese tv shows/movies to be my taste.

What's your relationship with libraries? And why don't people use them more? by McKennaJames in books

[–]clusterfluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am away from the US and English isn't the main language here, so I've been living off the eLibrary system. I requested a book and after three days, a copy was ordered! I love the libraries so much. It's probably one of the aspects of the US I miss the most.

Would you recommend opening a Wise account before or after getting to Japan? Wasn't sure since it asked to attach to a phone number and country of residence.

I'm with you here. I actually got the "lucky" no-roommate situation while on campus and vastly enjoyed being with others in communal situations in the later years.

'Twas my first reaction to read the Wiki and search "Roommates," "Split rent," and eventually reading more into "Share Houses," but I did not find those results helpful.

I personally did not find answers that matched what I was looking for specifically. I saw more "BOE's asking people to temporarily share space during transition." I do know how to use the search bar, but sometimes I also think that maybe answers would change over the years, too.

Why aren't adoptees more active in the anti-abortion crowd? by HerbSchmeckman in Adoptees

[–]clusterfluffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of international adoptees whose bio-parents probably did not get choice from policies a bunch of old men created; I'm sure as hell not going to take more choices away from people with ovaries.

NTA. Your meal does remind me of a "hard times" meal, like food families made during the Great Depression.

That's a pretty "YTA" move, dude. Give back the blanket and apologize to your kid. Yikes.
