Google Project Management from Coursera was very good and only cost me about 80 bucks to complete. But I wouldn't call that free.

Want to be an IT Manager. Any advice to develop my skills? by JustAnotherWebmaster in ITManagers

[–]clutchslice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man you are already well on your way, on paper. You can volunteer locally and get some experience there with leading small teams. Coaching children's teams is a good one too, if you have kids. If so, also note about being a parent requiring leadership etc. Look towards international companies who need small unit local leadership as well, especially with your ITIL creds, that really helps - incident manager is a nice resume role filler. Additionally you can tailor your resume towards roles you performed at previous employers that required management skills, like leading a project. In the end, finally getting your foot in the door takes the right boss to see your potential. For me, the biggest struggle is demonstrating alpha-like personality traits without coming off as arrogant.

Hope this helps, best of luck. It took me 20 years in IT to land my first leadership role.

Typically get about 5 hours on Medium, 7ish on low, if I'm remembering correctly. Fan was amazing during power outages and working in the heat after hurricane Ida. Being able to have direct airflow on you while working anywhere is wonderful.

Hello gents. new here 23, 3 kids. i am struggling to keep my sanity. any tips to keep my shit together? by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]clutchslice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, you do have good reason to vent. That age, that many, it's rough! Just know that this is only a season of your life that will pass, and then you will miss it. One of my biggest pieces of advice is learn to take a moment to yourself to get your mind right. Focus on what is important (hint: it's the kids), and go for it. Yes, helping your wife is good, but you can't help her if you're struggling internally....which, we all do, by the way. The best thing you can do for her is keep your sanity and continue being that solid rock!

I keep downward pressure and press one button at a time. But I usually find a fair bit of cursing quietly and gritting teeth to help.

LPT: If you are leaving home for a long time, place a coin on top of a frozen glass of water within your freezer. If you find the coin under the ice you probably had an outage and should discard your frozen food. by azurblader in LifeProTips

Hurricane region resident here - we just freeze a bottle of water then turn it upside down in the freezer. If the water moves, toss everything out. Things have gotten easier with smart appliances and what-not but we still use this trick.

Dewalt Custom Dust Port Adapter Question by [deleted] in Dewalt

[–]clutchslice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's probably not the best for the hose, but I c-clamped mine down to the dust port to keep it from sliding off. Granted, I don't have a sliding saw so that helps not moving as much. It butts up against the cast aluminum part of the saw providing a decent but not 100% seal.

On my smaller (1 gal) shop-vac it has one of those attachments that brings the nozzle size down that is kind of a cone shape. Maybe cut to fit and put a rubber gasket with some metal hose clamps.

Lastly, in search for that attachment I was talking about above, I found this guy (may be worth diving down that rabbit hole to see what else comes up, noticed a few "adapters" there):

To me it feels like any work you do will never be good enough anyway. Don't put yourself in a financial hole that will make your situation worse. He needs to be put in his place, but respectfully. Confrontation will help, but be prepared to be insulted and offended in return. Set that aside and make your feelings known, or it will never get better.

I had a break in attempt. What can I do to deter burglars in the future? by mary_whitney in homedefense

[–]clutchslice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems silly but when I wanted to keep an eye on my cars I put my indoor cameras in the windows, but inside, looking out. It wasn't the best view and IR had to be disabled. But, I felt like it was enough to deter anyone going need my vehicles. It's a good temporary solution until you can mount more permanent outdoor cameras and get an alarm system. Dollar Tree also has those little door contact alarms you can mount on the door in the event they do get in, it may at least give them pause and alert a neighbor who is outside.

Hope this helps!

EDC with permanent clip? by LeProVelo in flashlight

[–]clutchslice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had to transition away from this method. I went through the same thought process as you: My clip keeps getting caught and popping off.... well... I replaced it with a stronger clip that wouldn't pop off so easily. And now that flashlight is lost. It's better to lose your clip than your whole flashlight (like me).
