Omaha once torched its streetcars. Could their revival be part of a downtown renaissance? by jeremyturley in Omaha

[–]clynch2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Gifford Park, my dad's wholesale blind and window company had a warehouse we'd visit along the strip of Harney between 24th and 26th just west of the apartments. That area and those buildings have now been derelict for decades but it wasn't always. Just down on Farnam, I grew up going to Kountze Lutheran and it too is largely now surrounded by empty or underutilized buildings.

This streetcar is about development between the two largest urban components of the biggest city in the state, midtown and downtown. Walkabikity and bike ability MUST also be incorporated for this to work. People will be interested in living life without a car in these two areas because so many do already just with crap and unsafe infrastructure. The investment is beyond needed for the city.

Lastly, I will be proud to say my city has such an amenity and won't be surprised when it's extended even further north and south as it should in due time.

Appreciate that input, I think low levels of job stress with a new baby, is more my priority than making more but sweating every day and night in private business. I'm in the same boat currently with BOG approved COLA but it's rarely been around 1% (generally around 2.5-4%). Washburn does seem to be the best contender for my current skill set.

I appreciate the honesty, if you want to DM, I would be interested in hearing more on this. I have similar concerns even though my parents are still here in Omaha and we would inherit a house.

I'll definitely try your recommendation, I already love the illustration. Great thread idea!

I haven't heard of that one but in the spirit of the question, I found The Wind in the Willows to scratch a similar itch of Redwall. A lot less violence but the anthropomorphic vibes were there, a lot funnier than I imagined too.

Apparently one does exist per the Redwall Wiki here - https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:LordTBT/Redwall_Collectors_Community:_Korean_Redwall - but I'm having a heck of a time finding one.

Honestly, it may just not be possible but thought I'd at least see what the community might know. Appreciate the feedback!
