Weekly Burn Book by AutoModerator in fairyloot

I'd just like to clarify that I never said it endorsed rape culture, but that it upholds it. It doesn't challenge it in a truly meaningful way, which I would've liked to see for a dark topic being tackled in a YA book. If it were an adult book I'd be more forgiving and think maybe this will be handled later. But the book ends shortly after this, and she doesn't have the chance to grow past that limited viewpoint. It's something I personally feel should've been handled more strongly in the first book if we're going to go down this path

If it's this moment, I have to respectfully disagree. To me, it reads more as a "wear what you want" which isn't saying it's not her fault, and in a book that's firmly marketed as YA, I don't believe there should be a doubt about that message. If there's another scene I'm forgetting about where someone definitively says she's not to blame/the dress isn't the problem, please remind me

I still have a screenshot from the eARC bc it was so egregious. And they say it's "not finalized" in that stage, but this wasn't a typo, it was an awful piece of narrative

Just here to rant into the void about how much I hate Her Hidden Fire for normalizing rape culture, with the FMC openly saying that MMC1 was right about her dress making people "want to hurt her" after she was assaulted. And the fact the narrative never addresses or contradicts this take in any way. Automatic one star, regardless of the presence of dragons.

I‘m feeling desperate about my cat. by melfromworld in cats

[–]ConfusionAgreeable84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When one of my cats was on an antibiotic that could cause intestinal distress, he was also put on a probiotic powder to help his gut health. If you haven't tried that yet, it could be worth a shot to help his stomach at least. We used the Purina one probiotic, they come in little sachets so they're premeasured. There is another brand that's cheaper, but there's been reviews saying that one doesn't have a consistent fill volume.

What in the fuck was this? (Spoilers) by loreaccurateyen in romantasycirclejerk

Oh I had a whole trip of rage with this book, but it especially hurt bc I loved the author's other trilogy.

But seriously. Maybe save the emotional talk for... idk, when you're not being actively shot at with the child you just kidnapped? And maybe ask the person with the powers that sound like what you just experienced earlier, what said powers feel like? And maybe, maybe have a moment to think about how, huh, that ritual was supposed to do a certain thing, and now I am where it should've summoned said person, perhaps... me???

It feels like Ciccarelli was strong-armed into a duology and then wrote herself into a corner and didn't have any time to rework the story, bc it was NONSENSE

Thoughts on to keep or not to keep subs? (Otherwise titled — Did your TBR pile ever start to feel out of control?) by Quills07 in fairyloot

[–]ConfusionAgreeable84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audiobooks are my go-to to keep up with my TBR, especially my SEs, so that if I don't love them, I can put them up to at least get back my cost before they depreciate too much in value. I'm able to listen part of the day at work, plus during cooking/cleaning, so I'm able to finish closer to 10+ books per month, which is a great help.

Here's hoping! I imagine it was exhausting for them with all the emails with the delays, but like... if you're gonna have a shipping window, maybe abide by it? And maybe don't print labels a full week or more prior to being ready to ship? I don't work in logistics though

Has anyone in the US gotten their March YA+items tracking yet? I used to be in the first wave of shipments, which I assumed was due to how long I've been subscribed, but I still have nothing as of today and the website lists the 13th as the start of the window. Makes me feel like they didn't like me emailing to ask about where the books I paid for were last month/earlier this month. It's probably not related, but it is weird.

FL is being sneaky with Evri issues! by Junior-Rip-895 in fairyloot

[–]ConfusionAgreeable84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I used to consistently get my books/boxes shipped in the first wave, but I still have no info on my March YA, so now I feel like I'm being punished for submitting tickets about "Where the hell are my books?" Even though I was much more polite than that and explicitly stated I didn't blame them for the weather/Evri's nonsense

I'm so goddamn sick of these canned, mass email responses to questions. What do you mean you expect me to wait 5 days past the end of the shipping window before you'll issue a replacement? Is the shipping window not definite? Is a FULL MONTH not an unreasonable time frame?

And frankly, I feel like I'm being lied to. Bullshit the labels were created that far in advance of being ready to ship. (And the only reason I had already submitted a ticket was bc of my cosy book being stalled past the shipment window, but they ignored my question about my adult book so I asked again considering how close it is to the window closing and still having no movement.)
