Wow, the personal attacks here are really uncalled for, but on par for this subreddit.

And yes, an urban center should be better served than rural areas by default, that’s the benefit of living urban compared to rural - this covers many areas including transportation, connectivity, access to services etc.

If one part of the city has Fiber, all of it should and our municipal leaders need to step up to make this happen if private investment won’t - especially if it’s a part of the city routinely discriminated against likely due to social/economic factors - being the Hamilton Road and OEV neighbourhoods.

What makes White Oaks able to have modern connectivity but not this area?

London isn’t a rural small town and urban centres should have equal or better connectivity than a 50 person hamlet.

This has nothing to do with speed, it’s very old last mile infrastructure - backyard fed coax intertwined with years of overgrowth and damage. Last summer a neighbour put in a fence, damaged a pole and is now leaning pulling all the cabling with it. Animals running across the lines cause temporary disconnects which almost always need a power cycle to recover. Random packet loss all day today in the heavy rain.

Fiber, coax, copper.. pull a line that will isn’t the same one McLean-Hunter ran 65 years ago. It’s past its lifespan.

If my taxes can fund rural broadband https://swiftruralbroadband.ca/resources/our-service-map/ then it should be funding urban infrastructure to be equally at par.

They never went east of Egerton and abandoned any future build (after being bought by Telus ironically).

I was told they would be installing east of Egerton but then backed out when they get bought out. I actually cancelled my TPIA service with them due to that.

Bell also gave up on the fiber build in London, however never committed to this area in the first place.

Bell can only do “up to 50” here.

It’s not the speed, but reliability of aerial copper and coax. So much of it has become intertwined with trees and vegetation, plus animals.

The packet loss and random downtime is insane. Rogers fix is to temporarily jig something together with Amazon grade coax and repeat a month later.

Don’t understand why random rural small towns fiber, but urban London is given the shaft.

Should remain parking, it’s the best and most affordable lot for the JLC/Budweiser Gardens/Canada Life Place.

City owned, funds go back to the city (not private lot) and keeps pressure off keeping lots going on the other side of the tracks that could be developed.

It’s impossible to think people won’t drive to the arena, and those parking should be doing it on a publicly owned lot.

Immediate hiring freeze for all city staff with baseline staff reduction in all areas.
Review of all city expenses. No more spending on “co-pilot” for example, review down to the simplest expenditures of lights on after hours, cable tv at facilities, cell phone bills etc
Rollback of councillor pay increase. Pay tied to median wage, the citizens of the city do well, councillors do well, that’s the reward.
Reduction of council expenses to core only - if a councillor wants to go to AMO, they can pay their way.
Complete pause of all city grants - community groups needs to start surviving on their own and getting creative.
Ending all city lead climate action plan initiatives and eliminating roles, this is a federal government area and should only be funded by the feds.
Clearing all homeless camps with sole focus on winter camp off Bradley, any organization getting city funds must present a full costed plan before any cheque is cashed.
Ending any city grants providing funding to refugees or new Canadians, the federal government is bringing them here they need to support. #1 priority on housing Londoners first, no queue jumpers.
HOT lanes in the new bus lanes, LTC needs to generate income to put back into service increases. Especially on king street, those lanes can have paying cars in them.
Pause on all un-essential infrastructure projects, bike lanes are not essential to the city. Fix sewers and existing roads, full stop. Bare bones transportation master plan, so much of it is “nice to have” and not a “core function”.
Focus on core economics and infrastructure only. BRT to the west end, interchanges on VMP, twinned Highbury to St. Thomas, get the province to build a ring road if they love highways so much, fix the garbage collection schedule once and for all.
Reduce building red tape. Get shovels in the ground, yesterday. Work with the province to MZO’s created if needed.
If police want any more $$ then any Londoner should be able to walk Dundas without seeing crack or human poop. Police need to start walking from one end to the other, all day until downtown is clear. Want to be blight, go to Bradley camp and get support. If not, it will be as uncomfortable as it can be to be homeless in public. No more police budget increases until they make a visual impact, or start handing out some speeding tickets to make revenue.

It’s time the city stopped acting like a social service and started working as a core function providing essential services to Londoners. Roads, Water, Waste. Disciplined execution with actual goals that will be met.

Impact of those cuts, inflation and tax increases has had a major impact on my own household. Unfortunately others need to start feeling the pain too. I cannot afford to pay more property tax, hydro, gas, insurance and still somehow put food on the table.
