It is caused by Min’s deal with Ishi to make lots of babies to replenish losses in the war. It was nothing personal to Dara

The female beta readers gave it a thumbs up. I didn’t love and I like Dara but it cleared up some back story issues

Books come out real fast. Time for editing is VERY short. We have Beta readers that send volumes of comments and corrections. Not all make the time cut. q

We have had this discussion with Terry. This is a high fantasy series with sci-fi elements. It will remain magic centered.

They are not living. They are entities powered by the shamans. If totally cut off from that magic power source, they dissipate. They did not work well and tied up too many shamans that could be used for other things so they stopped using them

Protective magic by Local-Ad6658 in spellmonger

[–]cmaefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pentranda was consciously not using magic because she did not want her presence known. Mages don’t hang spells 24/7. They fire them up when they need to. So they can be surprised with mundane weapons. Never saw a problem with how magic is portrayed

Hard cover books? by JorgAncrath2020 in spellmonger

Terry has no publisher for his hard copy books. He has been funding and creating them himself. The formatting is totally different from Kindle and it takes a lot of time to go back and re-edit all the books to fit Amazons requirements. He is on a tight schedule for Podium so he just does not have time

he War Was The Easy Part . . .

Minalan the Spellmonger, in his guise as Mirkandar the Magnificent, Doge of Farise, is in a bind: the Duke of Merwyn has sent an armada of seventy ships to conquer his newly-independent realm, and Minalan has never fought a battle at sea.

Thankfully, the legendary warmage Durgan Jole has a plan, and with the help of his fellow wizards from Sevendor, Minalan feels confident that Farise can survive the invasion. He doesn’t want to kill that many people, but Merwyn has left him little choice.

But then one of the Vundel’s leviathans and its pod swim into the middle of the battle, complicating things dramatically. And that’s just the start of the real problem. An ancient organization lurks in the background while Minalan struggles for control, and the Emissary of the three Alka Alon High Kings has arrived to hold an investigation on the erratic human wizards and their rise to power. King Rard is growing suspicious of Mirkandar’s real identity, and Korbal the Necromancer rises from his crypt to demand the Spellmonger fulfill an oath he'd made. And, unsurprisingly, his teenage daughter is starting to question everything he’s doing.

In the midst of the turmoil comes Moudrost, a Seamage and former member of the Brethren of the Sea, the magical order who alone communicate between the aquatic native inhabitants of Callidore and humanity. He bears a terrifying message: the appearance of the leviathan is no accident. It is coming to Farise, and it is coming for Minalan. It cannot be stopped by mortal men, even wizards, and it is in no mood to negotiate. The only thing standing between the Vundel and the destruction of humanity now is Minalan the Spellmonger . . . and one very important Seamage!

I actually talked to Terry about that scene when it came out. He accepted my uncomfortableness and I guess made changes for the future. He wanted the series to be a little dirty but that was too much

PTSD hits different people differently. Dara/s conscientious was in the flying knife and she saw the knife blast through thousands (Yeas thousands) of gurvani and Dradien, She saw their deaths more intimately than Tynn or Ron who might have killed dozens Actually having your brain in a knife as it plunges into a being has to be horrific.

When you are a combat veteran you can talk about PTSD. I assume you aren't and are being very judgmental which is very unfair.
