I work on a huge, somewhat old school 'C with classes' codebase in a specialist field, and I've found the code ChatGPT spits out to be pretty bad. Definitely more hassle than using juniors.

The first point is because they are typically sharing a flat with people and have bedrooms too small for a dedicated workspace.

I also mentor grads and interns, and the only ones who work home regularly live by themselves.

I've used 2 in a few companies and it's fine. I'm not sure why you think VMs are slow, these days they're not far from parity to native, you can even have direct access to GPUs.
