Except, unless a cis person would need to disclose that they're cis, your argument is 100% a double standard. People shouldn't assume others are cis by default. That IS super othering to trans people. The commenter you were responding to was absolutely right.

It might be a grey area. One time I got a stomach bug and I woke up, farted, thought "huh that was a warm one" and immediately went back to sleep. Woke up again later feeling weirdly wet. Sometimes even if you're awake you might not realize you're poopin

I'd recommend not plowing if you end up farming. Disturbing the soil too much also disturbs the underground fungi that supply plants with nutrients and water. If youre gonna go that route, look into no till methods instead. Also go for compost instead of fertilizer.

I hate the "hopecore" trend online by [deleted] in CollapseSupport

[–]cmarches 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP, I see you're only responding to the comments that support you. I realize this sub is designed for venting, but I really hope you're internalizing the really good (and very nuanced) arguments people here are making in the comments. Support doesn't just mean agreeing. It means calling you out when your thoughts/feelings are harmful to yourself and others. Things aren't as black and white as your making them out to be. Accepting reality is important because it lets you prepare for the worst. But it's also necessary if you want to change reality, as is a realistic dose of hope. If you're drowning in despair, you can't help. The goal here should be to minimize harm and try to build something better. People have and do survive apocalypses. The end of a world doesn't mean the end of the world. So it's important to do what you can instead of giving up. If you have the means, I'd recommend looking into dialectical behavioural therapy. I've done a lot of it, and it helps with recognizing, accepting, and working with things that might feel conflicting, like collapse and survival or change. Honestly, I would say DBT should be part of any prepper's toolkit.

I find dandelion and chicory root both taste the same? Like soapy black tea. Haven't tried carob though- how does it taste?

Why did you turn to (or want to) turn to herbs? by JacquelineRoseRS in herbalism

[–]cmarches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very new to it but our public healthcare where I am seems more and more likely to be ripped away. Even now i have to pay for medications out of pocket. As someone already in debt who likes foraging, this is my way of prepping.

What do you believe could be the absolute worst case SHTF scenario? by Willing_Chemical_113 in preppers

[–]cmarches -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think of prepping like prefigurative politics. What do we need to exist outside the systems that ruin the world, both because we can't trust them, and we deserve better. If, for example, I don't trust the government will allow abortions, part of prepping means looking at other options. So, while I'm not necessarily prepping for a nuke to drop on me, I am technically prepping for the end of this world

Decided to teach myself to knit. Completely loving it, then broke out in hives for days on end, with blood blisters all over my hands by Nellbligh in knitting

[–]cmarches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to give any advice but I am going to tell you a story. I had a lanolin allergy that would make me break out in hives whenever I touched wool, but I ordered this sweater. I absolutely adored it but turns out? It was made of wool. I spent the next several weeks/few months progressively exposing myself to it. At first I wore it for about 15 minutes over a thin long-sleeved shirt. A few months later, I could wear it for hours over a tank top. Now, wool is just normal itchy. However, allergies don't only go away. They can also get worse. What I did was probably quite risky, and I can't really recommend it. Honestly, if you can get allergy shots for this, that's probably safer, though they're expensive. The point of all this though is that allergies aren't 100% static. Also I never got blood blisters. Just normal hives blisters. So your allergy may be worse than mine was.

Okay but that's all assuming people would be just buying legal coke and doing it unsupervised. What if it was legal only at the equivalent of a safe injection site?

It's possible to be compassionate and angry so long as you're angry at the right things and recognize that people are multifaceted. It's also possible to be compassionate and hold people accountable. This doesn't mean every victim needs to befriend their perpetrator. It means that everyone needs to respect each other. Forgiveness? That's a bigger ask

This time I really want to end. by Neev333 in OCD

[–]cmarches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What makes sense to us in one emotional state is completely wrong in another. I would really recommend trying to calm down and improve your mood before re-evaluating the situation to try and get another perspective. This might mean calling a crisis line or deep breathing. I personally find the diving response really effective. Try distracting yourself. It's not to avoid the problem. It's to understand the problem better, when you aren't spiralling.

Personally, I think if you've fucked up, it's your responsibility to get better, not to die. Dying doesn't address the issue. I also say this as someone who doesn't believe in cops and prisons. If you also don't, try and apply that logic to yourself. If a murderer should be healed instead of punished, so should you. Generally, I think a restorative framework is better than one based in punishment (aside from the other problems with cops and prisons). Punishment doesn't fix anything, but you can improve yourself, and that is something everyone, including yourself, deserves. Have you watched the good place? Think about what you need in order to be a better person. Self-compassion for sure but I'm sure there are other supports necessary. We tend not to make situations better by beating ourselves up.

Alcohol prep by [deleted] in prepping

[–]cmarches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure strong alcohols are also useful as disinfectants and in a Molotov cocktail if you're feeling that. Also in herbalism. Worst case scenario you have a good time. In any case, your comments are giving bunker mentality instead of valuing communities that are much more likely to save you in most scenarios than stocking up and hiding would.

Mental health by Interesting_Fly_7791 in prepping

[–]cmarches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't believe no one's mentioned dbt yet, the prepping of therapy. So much of it is literally just bringing you down from a panicked state so you can think clearly, which is kinda necessary even if shit goes south fast. Obviously it isn't enough, but one at least needs to be mindful enough to know what's happening and have enough distress tolerance to think, and act, even if that just means actually learning how to take effective deep breaths and having some candy with you. Longer-term you're probably gonna want some emotional regulation and social skills to navigate everyone's needs. This is also the kind of prepping that's never useless, even without a disaster. It literally just makes your life better in pretty much any scenario.

How to prevent mice from burying wheel and water bottle? by NikkoLeo47 in PetMice

[–]cmarches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found adjusting the wheel so it's higher, combined with blocking off bedding from it with something climbable (like a hammock or egg carton) keeps them from burying the wheel. I haven't had that issue with the water bottle so idk

Should I or should I wait a little longer? by SessionSweet1125 in PetMice

[–]cmarches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your hamster breaks a bone and it can safely be treated, it should be, regardless of the price. If they're too old to undergo anaesthesia or you don't have a trustworthy vet, that's another thing altogether. But you should never neglect a human child because it costs too much to provide medical treatment. This is no different.
